Topic: Hog Hill Posted: 24 August 2010 at 1:14pm |
Having checked my notes and forum posts, I think I'm right in saying that nobody's volunteered to organisate for the Hog Hill meeting. (But, having misplaced knowledge of volunteers for at least two events this year, I could be wrong again.)
Who wants the power to say whether we will or will not be racing up and down the hill this year, then?

I'm not going to volunteer cos I'm doing Hillingdon, but can I put in a plea for the track layout we used last year. The banked corner in the dip after the start/finish straight is like being on a velodrome and the technical combination of corners after the thrillingly fast downhill must be the most exciting experiences to be had in BHPC racing and really rewards courage. Okay, you have to go up the hill but I can only recommend lower gears (you run out of gears pretty fast on the downhill anyway). This track is unique in our calendar - and despite the hill, a streamliner is still by far the fastest thing around there!
Am I the only one who feels this way?

tbh I preferred the way we raced the first year, as I felt the straight after the long descent carried your speed further. But I don't mind it either way.

Having only raced one direction (last year) i can't really comment apart from; the top lumpy and banked corner was terrifying in Quest, and the bottom tight left hander was so slow to stop me from tipping over, and the hill, well everyone should try it in a 75lb machine, and feel the muscle BURN!!!!! rest of track is ok!
I'm not volunteering as i don't want to be the cause of any grief on a day when results are required on the day! And i don't have time to spend working out how all the IT and stuff is worked! sorry!

have we got any takers for organising yet? ian, going the other way (clockwise), the climb is longer but shallower, that banked corner at the top you can really hit at speed after cresting the hill and it pulls you up around to the finish, and going down the big hill you can carry your speed further right around the bottom corner and onto the long back straight.
I'd rather someone else volunteered, but if there's no takers I'll do it and we'll definitely go clockwise..

For this I will need four race up date on the software three video cams and a cup of tea only joking about the tea, I drink coffee.........

Yehbut the corner at the bottom of the hill is scary but not challenging (you could do about 60mph around there) and you've lost all your momentum by the time you get to the interesting corners. I can't say the hill felt any easier that way round either.

They're not? Why am i wasting my time then? If the forecast is dry i might try the new (to me) toy!
As for direction, well, i've done it one way, so no problem trying the other - i fancy trying to hit 60mph!!!

Clockwise please (I've done both ways). I liked the hill climb last year, but felt that it should have had more hill to flat ratio.

going anti-clockwise that corner at the bottom (the real corner not the little curve where we started the hill climb) was very scarey last year, and I'd lost all speed by the time I got to it because I was slamming the brakes on to stop Paul Lowing and Dave Larrington from having a correx enema! Then there was a very tedious serious of boring bends, that clockwise at least had some technical challenge to them on 3 wheels..
most exciting bit was working out a line through that first dropping bend that didn't ground the fairing out and allow me to keep 3 wheels on the floor.
of course we could do the wiggly bit at the top for a change as part of the circuit, or even as a quick tt fun race.
Ian we know what new toy you've got, how can you resist from playing with it?
