Just (literally 5 hours ago) bought Windcheetah #295 from an estate and am now working on making it rideable again. It needs regular maintenance items (tires, chain, cables) and a thorough wash.
A couple of things have me puzzled: The rear axle bearings need cleaning or possibly replacement. Are they pressed onto the axle? The seat was mounted on rubber isolators (rubber bushings with threaded rod extending out either side). Are these the original design? Any ideas on replacements? Any idea when it might have been built? Looking forward to getting it rolling again. I've been intrigued by them for as long as I can remember. Thanks for any info you can offer. Kevin at D-Tek is probably the best source of parts and info on the Windcheetah now.
I’ll send him a link to this and I’m sure he’ll be along to offer words of wisdom soon… 😁 |

The rear axle bearings are held in place in the rear casting by the two pinch bolts. It's been a long time since I had one to bits but you probably remove the axle by loosening one of the bolts and tapping the axle through from the opposite side.
Seat isolators were universal exhaust pipe mounts, possibly used on old Minis among other cars. The ones on mine (no.202) were threaded 5/16 UNF. No.295 is fairly old, late 90s or early 2000s, and I don't think they switched to metric versions for quite a few years. |
