Should some of my scouts want to come along and try their new car, would that be OK?

There would be between 2 and 4 of them wanting to swap drivers during races - that's the problem I can foresee.

Thanks,

Jes

In my opinion it should be OK if they are capable of stopping and starting with due care and awareness of other riders. Any behaviour such as in a recent pedalcar event will get them red flagged for sure!
There would have to be a designated handover point and the other riders would need to be aware of what might be happening.

Ultimately up to the race organiser, I'll be there doing the timing but I'm not planning on doing the running...

It should be pointed out that none of the lads Jes is referring to were at fault in the recent incidents at the pedal car race at Swansea - in fact one of them was very nearly a victim of it!
I know this because my car was about two inches from his when we both had our reactions tested by somebody else's erratic driving!

Thanks Alan,

I think the Margam race has been done to death on this and other forums.

I'm all for encouraging Juniors and, whilst the best fit with BHPC racing would involve them all having a machine each, I realise that's not going to be the case with this new pedal car team.

The guiding principles should be that participation is safe - for them, and everyone else - and that it does not disrupt the regular racing.  My thoughts are:

  • Juniors should be under the supervision of a responsible adult - I assume, in this case, that will be Jes
  • If there are changes in rider during a race then there will be no eligibility for points.  I'm not sure how well the race software deals with that, but it might be that we have to leave their result out entirely, so it won't be published
  • Stops for changes of rider will need to be in a designated spot, out of the way of other riders - in a "pit lane", if you like, with extra care being taken over rejoining the race.  The thing with that is - not having been to the Stourport circuit before - I don't know for sure that it will be feasible.  It probably will, even if the pits have to be on a bit of grass, but I can't be 100% sure.  If your Scouts come along, then they'll definitely get a chance to try the car out on the track, and the car can definitely be raced, even if with only one rider.  In the interests of everyone having a go we'll do our best to accommodate rider changes, but I have to reserve the right not to allow that if I judge that it can't be done safely.

If we are going to enter them into the software then can I suggest using a Team name - possibly the same as vehicle name - with team - restrict it to a reasonable length and 2 words (+ team) and I think the software will be ok - it is then just a name

Swebbelli Racing.

The car is a bit of a mouthful because it is the "Rowley-Apollo/M Mk3 PC2 Coupe"

So stick with "Swebbelli Racing" I think...
