Exactly so, which is why having our calendar full of these single-class events that most of us don't ride in is is dull, dull, dull...
Pedal cars - there is a site for that!

There is a cross-over between pedal car racing and BHPC both in terms of the people that enjoy both and the nature of what we all do (pedalling around various tracks).
I'd like to see an increase in that as it seems like a good move for both clubs and so I fully support Jes in his attempts to promote the 24 hour race here.

I'd enjoy an invitational where we can use our own machines, as we have done in the past with the hand crank guys or shared events like the one we had with the fire guys. Head-to-head racing at Darley Moor was a good laugh. Just angling to poach riders is dull. And it does increasingly feel that the pedal car guys are trying to annex the BHPC.

Nobody with any sense would want to be in the middle of a pedal car race on two wheels.
The opportunity to race pedal cars against our machines is at BHPC events and I think we should be welcoming them along with all other HPVs.
I'm absolutely convinced that most people who enjoy BHPC races would enjoy pedal car racing if they gave it a go.

No one is trying to poach anyone, only offer opportunities for new experiences within the broad church that is our sport.

I am sorry that this makes you feel threatened.
Racing is life...
Anything which happens before or afterwards is just standing around waiting to race....

Rob, you make some very good points - but take it easy. You can't really fault these guys for their enthusiasm / desperation against the odds (ie hardly anyone appears to be interested in races that they cant ride their vehicles in). I've not checked any of the stick bike fora - is there anyone promoting BHPC events with similar enthusiasm? Live & let live, water off of a ducks back etc etc

I see Rob's position (i think) Jes has used the racing forum to advertise an event that is closed to the majority of BHPC (lets face it recumbents) members.

Yes pedal cars are human powered, but so are skates (ice and wheel) and canoes!

There is a Pedal Car website one that people who are interested in it can access.

I think Jes has maybe just strayed over the line of saying "there are pedal car races", he's pushed the racing a bit far, afterall a one liner saying come to our website if you are interested would have sufficed!

Thanks for letting us know about this, Jes. I also enjoyed the write up in the mag and pedal car races sound great fun. I have no problem being given info about a wide range of human powered vehicles.

I should add that it would be good fun to have a "recumbent" only team of oldies riding under the BHPC banner - i would put my hand up to give it a go!

Oh hum

Answer is really simple - If you think a post steps over the line - report it and one of the mods will have a look and make a judgement. If you dont like a post or think its dull, or just think its not of interest, just move onto the next one.

Everyone who is interested in human powered vehicles is welcome here as long as they abide by the few rules that exist.

As far as pedalcars in involved - yes its a restricted class, but so what - its still human powered - and yes if skaters drop by ( as they have in the past ) I would expect them to be welcomed to the forum. Yes pedalcars is promoted pretty well, just look at the amount of TV coverage there has been in the last year - not to mention the number of new youngsters that have started . The post gave notice of nexts years 24 hour, and just as soon as i get back to the country, the dates will go onto this calender. As will the BHPC ones when they are decided, and any other relevant events that are requested.

At the end of the day - the forum is open to anyone interested all aspects of human power, not just the ones you may be interested - So Play Nicely!!!!
