I have a Burrows 'Power Ranger' helmet (Elous SH+) in Red + White. I wish to dispose of it (unused) because,
a) I look like twat in it and
b) it does not fit, because my ears are obviously located in the wrong place on my bonce ....

I'll bring it to Shrewsbury, should anyone wants to try. It cost £119 - I'll accept sensible offers, on condition that I can take photos or video of any new owner, for publication anywhere in the known universe, without recompense to the subject ......

Just looking at gearing... I was spinning out at 27MPH down the hill towards the hairpin.
Currently I have a 42 tooth chainring and the smallest on the back is 11... The wheel is 26"...

Might run it as it is at Rhyl and see how it goes...

My "Classic" Ratty is set up with 52 x 11.  That's good for 35 mph, though mostly only if there's a downslope, a tailwind, I get a good tow, or all three!

With an 11-24 cassette, launching is not a problem, even on a mild uphill (e.g. Fowlmead) and, once under way, the bottom couple of gears see no service other than at Hog Hill.

That's with 170mm cranks though.

Thanks Adrian,
I'm thinking of putting a Capreo Cassette on the back (9 - 26).
That would increase the top gear from 99 to 121 inches if I've got the numbers right...

I was only using the top three gears after pulling away at Shrewsbury.
My cranks are 145mm I think...

Except it doesn't look like a Capreo will work on there... Cry
Bigger chainring I think...

You could plate a larger ring to the current one as it is not your standard setup..... might get you riding...

More then happy to cnc you a ring to your spec.... even oval! Cost materials and bit of machine time.....
I love oval rings, been using biopace since mid 90s

Cheers g

Thanks Graham,
Fards says it looks like a TA Cyclotourist ring... Looking at pictures I think he's right...
Again from pictures Mike was using that small ring... I'll ask what he was running when I speak to him. He certainly wasn't slow... but I guess he spins the pedals a lot faster than me... Big smile

Very likely a TA: Mike is very keen on TA Cyclotourist chainrings because they are very light and very thin, so allow a good Q-factor. This means they're not so good for modern front mechs, unless you use spacers, but this isn't a problem with the Ratty. Mike also rides at higher cadence than most of us, probably because he's a real cyclist.

TA chainrings are still widely available from the likes of Spa Cycles and SJS, but before you just go replacing it with something similar I'd suggest looking some alternatives. Your TA chainring is probably 5-bolt, 130mm BCD which means an Alligt chainring will fit the spider. These have a built-in chainguard which means you don't need a separate bash-ring or external guard to be race-legal, thereby saving quite a bit of weight. Unfortunately the complex CNC machining required makes them quite expensive but other 130mm BCD chainrings are available from SJS and Spa.
