One for you Questers out there.
Can you please tell me how the Quest rain cover (over the cockpit aperture) is attached and what it's made of (material and thickness)? Any info much appreciated! Geoff |

It is attached with velcro strips 4 off, there is also a seperate smaller cover that covers the head hole when it is not being ridden, again via velcro. The strips are attached to the cover with plastic snap rivets? with the other "side" of the velcro glued to the body work.
I think it is a neoprene material, very similar to a diving dry suit with a material cover top and bottom, from memory i would say about 8mm thick.
It is moulded to shape in a press, whether that is heat and pressure, or just pressure I don't know.
I stand to be corrected on all facts stated above by current owners.
I might even have an offcut of the material in my shed if you want some? Edited by Yanto - 21 February 2012 at 2:22pm |

Thanks Ian. Are the rivets like these? http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/plastic-nylon-rivets/0280931/
Maybe it's a Zotefoam type material - would explain the rivets, as its very difficult to glue to. Neoprene works well with contact adhesive, but maybe thats not strong enough in this application? |

says i have to register to view image! Not sure i want to do that with RS!
Managed to look at thumbnail and yes look similar. The female portion has a relatively wide flange to hold the velcro in place, with the male rivet pushed through from the top. Edited by Yanto - 21 February 2012 at 3:54pm |

Geoff
I have found some impressive cyanoacrylate adhesive which will stick silicone foams up to 200 deg C if you are interested. What's Zotefoam made from? MBG

I think it's polyethylene - John Tetz 'welds' it using a hot metal blade. I've seen anerobics that can stick polypropylene, but you use a primer first. In this application, it's probably not so much of the bond not being strong enough, more the substrate would tear.
But if you have a glue that sticks Zotefoam/Polyzote I'm sure there will be people who are interested. |
