Ladies and gentlemen
We have a serious problem concerning the booking at Newport. For reasons as yet unknown, instead of the 11-4 slot we requested we have got 8-11am, this can be moved to 9-12 but this is likely to be a problem for anyone who lives further away than Cardiff (for example, Rob Gillions who is supposed to be organising the event certainly can't make the early time).
We have been offered the alternative slot of 6pm to 10pm which is a bit more plausible though an evening event on a Sunday might not be desperately popular. The other alternative is to cancel the event which is hardly ideal (there is no chance of changing date, the preferred slot is booked up until April next year). The idea would be to have everyone ready to get on the track as soon as it is available so the races can be done in the first hour or so. This will mean that those who have long drives will be able to get some racing in and still get home before they have to get up for work!
Could all those who were planning on going to Newport please let me know if they WILL attend the late event as I have to confirm what we will be doing today.

I would find it a little difficult to get to the evening event (would do my best to attend though, just need to find a way of fixing some lights on the bike). But I live in Cardiff, so the morning event doesn't pose any problems for me... There is space for two on the futon downstairs, and a third if you don't mind the sofa... and I've got my bike under a groundsheet out back, there is space for more. I'm sure my housemates wouldn't mind.

Only the morning option is possible, as my van needs returning by 17:30 on sunday. Is it plausible to have freeplay up until running 2x 30 minute points races at 10:45 and 11:25 sharp? but then only 20 riders can have a points race.

Unfortunately, a phone around to the membership would take too long, and I don't have numbers for most anyway.
If morning, I won't be going and will be looking for someone to volunteer to take over. Majority rules, obv. - even in the evening, I would only stay for an hour or two, with a five hour drive ahead of me ....
Please - all chirp up so that we can try and rescue this from the mess they made for us

We would not attend an evening event - it's just too far to travel home afterwards, I'm afraid.
A morning event (preferably 9-12) would be possible, as we had planned to stay with relatives in Hereford, not too far away.
Given the considerable expense of hiring Newport, if an event goes ahead but the numbers attending are very low, I think we should seek a refund (as long as we can demonstrate that the fault is theirs).

We haven't paid anything so no need for a refund, evening was offered at a discounted rate, they have admitted the mistake.

One problem with rearranging, particularly to an earlier time, is that people who don't see the forum may turn up at the original time, having made a long trip, and find that their journey has been wasted.
Of course, this applies to cancellation too. I can't think of a way round it.

If people are not talking with forked tongues so far there are 15 (2 maybe not) for the morning and either so that seems to be the option we should go for. If you disagree with this let me know asap.
Since the 2 Bikefix bods are coming down by train (getting in at ~10) it would be fair to put the points races towards the end of the session. This should also cover those who haven't heard and turn up ready to start at 11.
Could all of you please contact anyone you know who might be coming about this to try to avoid anyone turning up to an event that is just finishing.

Is it really going to bugger everybody if we changed venue? I've just been speaking to the guys at Shrewsbury who say the track is available on Sunday as long as the contractors who have just dug a bloody great hole in it today have finished by then.. They were very keen on having us there, so they will phone me back tomorrow (thursday), it's another option anyway, but will obviously mean problems for people who've got train or accommodation already booked.
Obviously if the idea is crap I won't pursue it.

Changing venue is harder than changing time - at least with the early slot there is some overlap with the time we advertise. I am not happy with the change of venue this late in the day, there are enough people who have said they can make Newport so we will stick with that.

Is 13 - 15 people enough to make it worthwhile (for points races anyway... as nearly all championships have been decided)??
Maybe we could just run fun races and have a seperate race (pursuit??) between Howard and Richard to decide Multitrack...
ANOTHER IMPORTANT POINT...
Do we have a track coach for the 9am time slot???
We will not be allowed to race without one...

The only realistic option now seems to be the 9 O'Clock start...
Could everybody who hasn't already responded please let us know ASAP if you intend to come to Newport so that we can work out whether or not it's going to be viable...

Unless someone's coming past this way and can offer me a lift then I'm not going to be able to make it I'm afraid. Although getting a trike running so that Howard can have at least one trike to race would be good.
Speaking to the boss at Shrewsbury today has opened a possibility of having a winter race there as Aldersley is out until the spring.
How are we doing on the Stopwatches front for Sunday? I was chasing up a few before today.

I'd like to do but I think it is possibly a bit far and arkward to get to without a car. I would like to have a go on newport too. I rode on quibal park on my trice a few weeks ago and it was fun. I have made a few alterations to my trice including a new seat and I have fitted the backets in such a way I should be able to get a seat angle as low as 19 degrees. Tailbox does not work with new seat but thinking of maiking a new tailbox for racing anyway which will be quite a bit lighter and a more aero shape since the load carrying frame and the internal floor and wheelarch will not be required. With a seat angle so low, maybe there will be a drop in efficiency due to the open hip angle. Will have to do some testing sometime to find out. Could maybe be a problem with pushing myself off the back of the seat too, could maybe make a jacket with velcro sowen onto it to stick me to the seat or maybe use one of http://www.car-roofracks.co.uk/pics/canoe-kayak/521-99-large.jpg - these

It seems rather extravagant to run an event for so few of us; I'll definitely ride if the meeting goes ahead, but if it were to be cancelled on grounds of unreasonable cost I would have no complaints.

That's cutting it VERY fine when we only have the track until 12... Hope there aren't any leaves on the track...
There are 2 coming from Bikefix - Stuart + 1 other...
So with Neil we now have a total of 12...
We are going to need a few more to make this viable (both financially and in terms of a worthwhile event for those of us travelling 150 miles to get there...)
So please speak up if you want to race...
At the moment I'm thinking of running 2 x 20 minute races, starting at 11am (on the dot...) Anybody who was coming along and hasn't heard the news should be there and ready to race by 11 anyway...
As we don't have stopwatches we would need to run two races to have enough non-racers available to count laps...

If time is tight then run races early. If there are any latecommers (11.00) then we can run a wrap-up race at the end for them. OK, so maybe not the best format but the best use of the track.

DECISION MADE FOLKS...
WE ARE GOING AHEAD WITH THE RACING AT NEWPORT.
I'm hoping that a few more will turn up on the day, but otherwise we'll just make the best of it...
I'll bring a laptop along and have a go at organising (unless anybody else is keen...)
Plan is as follows:
We have the track from 9am, so please get there as early as possible, and if anybody has a stopwatch they could bring along, that would be good...
We'll run some fun races as a warm-up. Most likely some timed flying laps as suggested by Rob on the original Newport thread and possibly some pursuits... Any other suggestions welcome as long as it isn't a "Curborough Devil"....
We are going to run two points races, each 20 minutes + 2 Laps.
The first will start at 10:45.
The second will start as soon as the Bikefix gang arrive...
As Heather won't be around with the cash box to sort money out, I'd appreciate it if those who haven't paid annually could either have the correct money or give us a cheque to save on fiddling about with change...
See you there...

The booking is now for 9-12 so if you turn up before that you probably won't be able to get on the track.
Please note that we are NOT allowed on the track unless there is an accredited track coach there, so please don't go on untill you have been given the all clear by Alan or the coach himself, Courtney Rowe.

Hi Graydog,
I reckon Newport owe us a favour at the moment so I'm sure we'll sort something out!!
But for goodness sake tell the woman to show a little dedication... Surely she can still count laps while giving birth??

Well She decided that timing and giving birth was not the way of things. so had Baby Joe at 6:40am this morning, (the mushy bit not for men!!!, 7lbs 5oz 3hr 40min from arrival and now at home o yet a boy, both are in good health it was a pool birth )
Bec thinks perhaps riding a bent may just be better and more comfortable then a sit-up, right now
hope you all had a good race, Bec said she'd buy me some track time for Christmas coz I'm missed out ( O woe is me, like given the choice what would you do, but hay it'gottabe worth a bit of sympathy )

Apologise for missing Newport, unfortunaely (for me) I hurt my back a couple of months before and although I could have raced, getting the bike in and out of the van would have been difficult. Not to mention the long drive. Though it looks like I would have missed the start anyway with the timing changes.
Happy Christmas to you all,
