I am taking it that the Castle Combe start time is 11:00.  The events page is slightly confusing in that it could be taken that it is 12:30, and the location description says 1:00. HOWEVER I am intending to start the race at 11.00, just to let everyone know.  I look forward to seeing you all there.

Thanks Kevin,

Looking forward to it. Fingers crossed for reasonable weather and a good turnout...

How are things progressing with the automated timing system?

Alan.

They are not - there is some questionmark about whether to purchase it or not and to the organisation reqruied to run it.  A long story ......  Easier to talk about it at the race.

The problem is not so much one of cost but how we are to organise the use of such high technology. There are/have been various issues about how we are to run events in the future, of which any new timing system is part. Kevin has written some marvellous software to control race entry, which organises riders, races and results in a much easier way. This you will hopefully all see at Castle Combe. The committee are currently working on the rest ....

I may be missing something, but organising loads of people with stopwatches seems more tricky than 2 people with a 'puter to me...

There is also a lot more room for mistakes with all those little fingers pressing stopwatch buttons and then manually entering the data...

I'm sure there would be a few teething troubles with the automated system but I'm also sure they could be sorted and it would be worthwhile in the end.

It is in fact a lot more organisation on a far fewer number of people.  It is that focus on far fewer people that is the problem.  It will mean that some people will have to arrive early to set it up and also take responsibility for running it rather than racing - Do  I take it that you are volunteering not to race for a season.  The argument is long (believe me - we can discuss at length on Friday).

Kevin, I'll be arriving earlier on Sunday to help check the track and get Paula doing some practice, before the main rabble turn up. Whatever, I'll be available to help where required before starttime .

With gNick hat on:- Dave and Neil - the bill isn't the (major) problem, it is finding the operators that is. After Castle Combe there are no volunteers apart from Lancaster and Preston and that is for the current setup...

With Administrator hat on:- Could we move Timing System discussion into the Timing System slot please.

The understanding that I currently have is that the race will be 2 hours + 1 lap.  However there is a view that the Juniors shall only run for 1 hour.  I think that is managable with the proviso that it counts for the Junior points only.  If the junior wants to compete in other categories then they should do the 2 hours.

It's going to rain by all accounts.

When you've finished you can have a nice cup of tea in the Tavern and watch us poor sods still at it for another 3 hours!
