Davies D6 “Great White”
Great specification, race-proven, relatively easy to learn fully-faired.
Get a race-ready bike for the World Championships in July!

Reluctantly, due to a house sale, I have to move on my beloved Davies recumbent.  The experience of riding this bike is nothing short of exhilarating.  I have raced it in short BHPC races and at the World championships at Monza and in the UK (finished 2nd ;o).  I also rode my local ‘10’ in to an 18"11' time.  I could've been faster, but I had a half-flat rear tyre.

Before I tried this bike, I had experience of riding an unfaired bicycle - you can of course remove the bike from this fairing and ride it ‘naked’. It will suit anyone with a good leg.  I'd say the maximum suitable height of the rider is not limited by the bike itself, but foot clearance within the nose.  I am 5'10" with average leg and size 9 shoes.  I have no clearance issues. The seat is fixed, only the boom can be adjusted.

Tyres run sealant for minimum chance of a full flat I never had one in many years.

Runs very smoothly. Apparently, it sounds quiet on the outside, but to ride it, ear plugs are useful.

The entry door is on hinges, and ties down from the inside with rubber straps.

Nice transmission components - useable range, something like 30 - 140"  IIRC *

FSA cranks, Dura Ace, Real metal thin wall frame**

Some shoes included

Practicalities include mudguards, which are actually essential in a wet race.

Will be sold as seen in photos. -  https://www.flickr.com/photos/27473075@N03/" rel="nofollow - https://www.flickr.com/photos/27473075@N03/

How big is your kitchen, Russell? It lived in ours for several months when it was mine...

Mind you, Judith is no ordinary woman

Hi Nick

Just picked it up and imagine my surprise when under the new "Great White" paint job I recognised the fairing and D6 bike I sold, finally reunited. Thumbs Up

As a bonus I notice that my Burrows Fugin would fit in it as well as the D6. The D6 is a nice ride. I rode it hands off and that was a first for me. Choices choices. Just need to get my legs up to strength. A few more 90 minute  rides at Betteshanger should do it.LOL

Hi,
I would be very interested in “Great White” if it is still available
And if you could help arrange shipping to the USA.

With great sadness I've decided to sell the Great White again as since my stroke I can't balance a bike without falling off and I'm just too old to take that anymore.

It has a new transmission waiting to be installed. I started to fit it just before I had the stroke and have fitted a new Terracycle idler and Ginkgo front wheel with a DT Swiss ceramic hub.

Yet to be fitted, The rear wheel built by Ginkgo with a DT Swiss ceramic hub for SRAM 11 or 12 speed MTB or Road gears. I have an 11 speed 10-42 SRAM cassette and rear durallier with twist grip shifters for it. A Chris King ceramic bottom bracket with double chain ring carbon crankset shortened to 140mm by Mike Burrows.

The D6 that is fitted has won the part faired BHPC championships a couple of times in the hands of the guy I bought it from originally (not Howard) In faired form Howard averaged just under 40 mph for 3 hours in the 2012 World Championships at Betteshanger. I was hoping with the new transmission it would be able to be slightly faster.

I haven't totaled it up but I think I spent over a £1,000 on the new transmission and wheels. I paid Howard £1,500 for the Great White originally.
So with all that in mind I'd like offers in the region of £1,000 please.
All the best.

What an absolute bargain, too cheap, for a very fast bike with all that quality gear.

I would have bitten your hand off, alas not for me I'm afraid as I've proved to myself that my balance isn't too good.

Good luck with the sale Roy.

Thanks Ian. I've been getting all the parts out this morning and I think the estimate I made of £1,000 of transmission parts should have been double that. I think it's over £2,000 of parts.

I'll photograph it all once I've collected it all together.

Also going to sell my Faired Kingcycle and both Fujin SL 2's

Going to take some time to list it all!!
All the best.

It's just occurred to me I could sell the Great White a lot cheaper as is and keep the transmission parts. Howard told me it was completely rideable as it is. They feel and all sound OK. It has mostly Shimano Dura Ace components. I could not ride it when I first had it due to not having long enough legs to get past the tiller fitted. Mike Burrows made me a new tiller that folds out of the way completely. Offers around £500 please.

All the best.

Hi Alan. Yes it is still for sale. See the new advert I posted. It's attracting more interest at the lower price.
Howard thought the limit on rider size was in the nose because of the fairing clearance to the feet. Although there are ways around that. Still in Rye East Sussex.
All the best.

Yes John. Realistically I can't use it since my stroke so it may as well go to someone who can.
All the best.

I hope you recover well and still cycle even if it on a trike.
Regarding g the Great White, any chance that you could measure it? I need to know the length and height, to understand if it will fit in my car for transport!
Get well fast!

Hi John. Paul designed it to fit in a Citroen Berlingo so it should fit in any car if it's dismantled, which it is already. I had to take it apart to get the bike out. However Alan has just told me he want's it, so he has first refusal now.
All the best.
