The (draft) plan for the racing at Darley Moor on Sunday 13th July is as follows:

10.00 am - Sign on begins
11.00 am - 2 lap time trial anti-clockwise
12.30 pm - slower race 45 minutes clockwise
2.00pm - faster race 45 minutes clockwise

Precise timings may be revised on the day.

How do the time trials work? Is it a standing start with a rider going every 30 secs or so?

Yep! We usually form a queue at the start line and go off at 30 second or so intervals...

At Darley Moor the track is fairly wide so if the turnout is lowish (as last year) we can sometimes get away with running just one race rather than splitting into fast and slow...

The time trial will be from a standing start. We don't fix the start interval but start people off when we have someone ready to time them. We use about 5 timers so it doesn't get too difficult so we'll have 4 or 5 riders on the track at one time.

For the 45 minute races, we will run two races, slower and faster. It is difficult to find enough people to time and organise only one race.

Many thanks to Heather and Andrew for some very efficient organising!

I agree, very well organised, although I thought Snidders the Headmaster was a bit too 'shouty' today - he made some of the Junior boys cry!

Stop snivelling Braley or it's five laps of the sports field after school! And it's MISTER Snidders to you if you don't mind.

Here's a short video I took of the warm up, along with Neil on the Ratracer:

It's my first time with a helmet cam and first time uploading anything to Youtube, but it looks like it's worked OK.
Russ

ps still gutted at Ian beating me by 0.03secs in the TT...

Many thanks Andrew. Just one thing I can see - I could be wrong but I thought Barney was riding a tail-faired Raptobike - he's down as unfaired.

Andrew,

It looks like I am never happy with the results, but I think it is worth to check. I have finish ahead of Russell in the 45 minutes race and just behind him in the TT. I was expecting that I will be ahead of him overall; I will appreciate if you have another check of the results.

More importantly Mr Lucian you have been awarded 1st place in Multitrack! NO WAY! you definitely had a huge blue fairing making you Mf

russ did you get the gps recording of the TT ?

Here's mine, 6:35 according to the gps
admittedly the gps didn't start till a couple of metres after the start, but then I didn't stop it till over 5 metres after the finish :D

I've got the video of it as well, that shows 6:36:45

***EDIT
got video of everything including quite a lot of scratching and dodgy *handshakes* as I didn't turn the camera off the entire event...

I was actually riding Rapto Unfaired O/P/U but Heather didn't have that as a bike so used £18.92 which is my wooden low racer as it has the correct classes.

I blame the lack of fairing on Fiona's win - nothing to do with her going out tr@@@@ng.

Okay, sorry Barney, my memory is increasingly faulty. I'm afraid Fiona hasn't been doing any training that I know of.

I've checked my Strava results but it's not accurate to that level - the best I can work it out to is a late 6:36 - so either way you got me! Must try harder...

John - Remember that the difference in points between positions is greater the higher up the field you are. The points for the first 10 places are actually as follows:

Position Points
1 1000
2 900
3 810
4 729
5 656
6 590
7 531
8 478
9 430
10 387

[There is actually a formula for working these out but I can't remember what it is.]

So Russell beating you in the TT (5th vs 8th) is worth 178 points, whereas you beating Russell in the 45 mins (8th vs 9th) is only worth 48 points. Even though the main race was worth three times as much as the TT (75% vs 25%) it's not enough to compensate for this difference in points.

Specifically the calculations are:

  Round 1 Round 2 Overall
  Position Points Position Points   Points
Russell Bridge 5th 656 9th 430 0.25x656 + 0.75x430 = 486.50
John Lucian 8th 478 8th 478 0.25x478 + 0.75x478 = 478.00

To calculate the points score based on position in a single race, as you go down the list the numbers awarded are 90% of those given for the rider in front (eg. 900 is 90% of 1000, 810 is 90% of 900 etc).

The. Formula is something a
On the lines of:-

Points awarded for position "n" = 1000 x 0.9 to the power of n-1

After racing on Sunday, Heather told me that I was making objectionable noises whilst steering sharply to the right. I have checked and can report that that far from this being a personal commentary on how the country is being run, the cause of the din was in fact, worn out bearings in my front RH wheel! Wink Thanks Heather....

Posted By: Yanto
Date Posted: 15 July 2014 at 6:50pm
Well I never heard the din they made, they can't be that bad - eh, pardon!

On a similar note (haha) we (Jen and I) were in the car the other day when I heard what can only be described as a whining rumbling bearing failure noise from the nearside front wheel, then it stopped and started again, so not being powerfully endowed in the hearing department I asked Jen to listen for it - she couldn't hear anything, my imagination then!

A few minutes later it started again, so I asked Jen to listen - noise stopped, then the penny dropped, it was Jen humming, humming the tuneless hum that only someone doing the humming can appreciate - gowd awful racket it was, from that point she's been instructed to remain silent, unless in conversation, or we have a crash!

Holy cow, the only time I know if I've beat anyone is if they are in front or behind me... Slash confuses a simple sole like me by being both in front and then behind in the same race and sometimes on the same lap!!!

At least slash provides entertainment by passing at regular intervals Embarrassed
