Boys and Girls

Times they are a changing and no longer are we going to inflict the race management on one person which means more than one person is required (only a politician would even try to deny that!).

To ensure that we have a full race series and happy people it has been suggested that we form a rota of who is organising which event.

To kick things off the nice Mr Kevin Jenkins has offered his services for the scoring at Castle Combe but he will need some help since all of us will be racing together.

At least one other person will be required to call out numbers, mop his fevered brow, etc.. If someone who is not planning to race would be happy to help we will be extremely grateful.

Race organisers will be required for all the events to come, aside from Lancaster and Preston which are already signed up for and the second Castle Combe which someone else is doing.

I will be posting up a list of what will need to be done in the near future but until then let's have some volunteering!

My other half, Nikki, will be at Castle Combe,
and as she has no intention of racing, has volunteered
to help with scoring.

I could ask my wife to help, but that would mean bringing her along...

I am willing to take on some of the organisation of Castle Combe but will need some help (to say the least).  Anna was thinking of Racing (Since she is totally mad) though only for the first hour. If someone tells me where to pick up the key then I am happy to do that. Jobs I can think of at the moment (and you can do some of these even if you are racing)

Signing on; Checking out the track (probably better on a trike or the likes since you may have to keep stopping to pick up rubbish); Race starting and marshalling (I Need to think about the 1 hour race) ; Lap taking (probably a few doing this will be better since it is 2 hours and so people will need to go off to the loo, warm up, get coffee, etc).  Any volounteers for any of these then please say.  No useful help declined.

Just a quick note to everyone Can you please make sure that your numbers are completely visible from the front and sides.  This is not just being picky - We won't have 1 timer per rider, so if we can't clearly see your number then we can't mark you down as completed the lap - your choice, but it is a long way to ride round for no reward!

No need for a key - all CC ask for is for the last one out to shut the gates.

Probably no need to check the track either - unlikely to have had pikeys or other undesirables breaking bottles on the track.

I would think that if we have a 1 hour junior race we will need at least one extra body to tell them when to stop and to make sure they don't block riders carrying on.

Emma, the other half, is comming with me to Castle Coombe and is happy to help with the lap counting. Being new to this sort of thing she doesn't want to do it on her own but is happy to help out.

We'll be there from 7am race morning (actually we'll be camping the night before) and our race is 10.30am - 4.30pm so I guess we'll shut the gate!

In the mean time, we'll do our best to keep Pikies (woohoo! a forum where that word is allowed!) and other undesirables off the circuit.

The only ABSOLUTE no that I believe CC have given us is that on no accout what so ever are motor vehicles to be driven on the race circuit. At all. Ever.

But I can't see anyone from either the BPCC or BHPC wanting to anyway!

Really looking forward to a "joint" meeting for the first time in ages.

Hmm Not having a car on the circuit, or the edge of the circuit could be interesting in how we would power (and protect) the timing system in future.

And how do we protect those timing the old fashioned way?

Will check with the circuit.

Why not time them looking over the pit wall?

Get a bunch of Big Lads and carry it?  IIRC a few years ago it rained there and no-one objected when TWFKAML parked our motorcar on the grass at the edge of the track to allow lap counting in the dry.

Hi!

I am the organiser of the pedal car race which will take place at Castle Combe at the same time as the HPV event.

With regards to cars on the track. I am new to this, but the booking form stated that we had to aggree to their conditions namely:

Take litter home,

Shut gates when we leave,

No motor cars to drive on the circuit.

I may be a bit out of date but I don't remember motor cars on the track in May 2002 when I raced the HPV race at Castle Combe.

I'm sure more information will be posted soon, but Jes has said it all really:

We have the venue from 7AM to 7PM on the 17th.

Camping is free the night before. This is NOT at Westway, but at the Chippenham Road Public entrance. Also, don't turn up before 6PM on account of the motor races -you will be charged entry!

On the day itself, the pedal car race uses the carpark and paddock area (well, some it because it is massive). I will be keeping the "Competitors entrance" shut because we are racing past it.

Entry to the venue will therefore be through the public entrance - the first one on Westway (not the usual Westway entrance which is much further along). Do an immediate left into the paddock etc. HPVs can access the main track either through the "real" pits or the Avon Bridge, I guess.

The pedal car race will be about 6-hours from 10.30AM. Currently we have a good field of 25-30 cars for this so I hope we can all enjoy each others company on the day and come and see us when you are not racing!

Now lets hope for good weather!

Chris.

Just talked to Castle Combe and the restriction is on vehicles racing round the circuit. They have no problem with car access to provide shelter for timers or for that matter for going round the circuit to collect the corpses that usually accompany our races.

Unfortunately, won't be able to make either Castle Combe or MK due to family commitments ....

I will do the AGM if anyone is willing to give me a hand (Kevin ?)

I'm very unlikely to be at MK as it's on the day we're heading home from holidayt in Norfolk. I cunningly planned the holiday around MK being on the Sunday and her indoors isn't too keen on coming home early...

Could always leave her there I suppose...

I'll be happy to help out at Eastway (or anywhere else) if needed...
