At the AGM somebody suggested awarding double points for the two hour race at Castle Coombe...

Does anybody know if this is going to happen?

I seem to recall this being outvoted at the AGM but I personally agree...

The suggestion was raised at the AGM and the vote was no. Castle Coombe should be considered a standard race.

If memory serves me right, it is difficult for some people to get to and hence they should not be penalised for missing it.

While double points would be nice, I don't see an argument for overturning the AGM decission.

I think all told it is obviously a different type of race.  There are many people in the club who prefer the longer races, as it fits into their normal riding pattern (there are others that hate it).  The same could be said about many of the circuits (Newport is a good example of circuits people love or hate.  The variety of different tracks, etc mean that these things even out.  The long race is just 'different', not particularly harder.

Just found the latest newsletter with the report of the AGM...

For those that weren't there, or haven't seen the newsletter...

3. Race Rule Change - Andrew Sidwell

I propose that long races (defined as >=90 minutes, ie at least twice the length of standard races) count as two races for points purposes. Thus double points would be awarded for competing, and non-attendance would count as 2 x 0 points for the purposes of the adjusted total.

The purpose is to encourage attendance at the longer races, by rewarding the extra preparation, training and effort proportionately. I have run this by Dave L and he can see no immediate practical problem.

A number of points were raised:

1) The far distance of the long race put various people off (social tour was also suggested)

2) What about 1.5 times the points, but this raiised issues of how to calculate. After much debate it was decided that this needs to be discussed further. This needs to be raised as a discussion point on the web site. (Action point Jon Coulson)

And here we are discussing it!

Crikey! The forum works!!!!!

Alan.
