Does anyone know the easiest way to obtain a Terracycle idler (toothed) from the UK? Need something quieter for the final drive of the new bike. Many thanks!

http://icletta.com/en/index.en.php" rel="nofollow - Icletta?  (In the EU, so no unforeseen taxes).

Or more usefully, http://www.icletta.com/shop/antrieb/cnc-kettenleitrollen" rel="nofollow - their web shop Wink

Thanks Mike. I'd found them. Looks like it will cost 10 Euros postage, but may be the best option.

Geoff,

Have you considered these?
http://www.gingko-spezialradteile.de/gingkoshop/en/Drive/Chain-Idler/

Not purchased anything off them yet, but Jorg seems a nice bloke to deal with, but there is a slight language barrier all communications with him are via email.

Karl

I've had several bits of Terracycle stuff from Icletta and can thoroughly recommend them (well, him really - I think it's just Kirk Seifert). The prices are on the high side but the delivery is extremely speedy. Plus it seems you always get a big glossy catalogue/magazine whatever you buy.

Ditto to Andrew's comments, highly recommended and Kirk is easy to talk to on the phone also ;-)

Geoff, have you contacted velomobile.nl?  Ginko steel idlers are about 40euro IIRC not light but very strong! they are a tad noisy though, but not like the thrashing machine you seem to have under your seat at the moment!

Do you mean threshing machine Ian or is there a device I've not heard about?? Shocked  I take your point though. Especially annoying as it's constantly rotating. It's on the return side of the chain so shouldn't be under much load.

nope I meant thrashing, threshing sounds too gentile, and not at all like a torture machine that it currently sounds like!

Maybe, given their Roadie-chastising potential, velomobiles should be called Thrashing Machines?!

I thought received wisdom was that the return idler didn't have to be toothed because it didn't matter if the chain was sitting on the sideplates. Or is just something else that you engineering types like to bicker about? Wink

Yehbut, my final drive has more chain tension than a derailleur system - think fixie.
