I'm aiming to do this ride later in 2013.  http://www.londonedinburghlondon.com/" rel="nofollow - http://www.londonedinburghlondon.com/

Any other masochists fancy giving it a bash? If so entries open 5th Jan, ltd places and much foreign interest make it very popular and should get booked up quickly.

It is UK's equivalent tp Paris-Brest-Paris.  1400km in under 5 days.

If you are considering doing ride london 100 then beware that it is only 2 days after the end of LEL and you may not have recovered from LEL. The upside though is that it also starts in london so saves traveling if you was to do both.

Valid points Lee.
I'm not doing those, and i think £219 for 4 nights full board, and beds, and showers and snacks is excellant value, ok getting between the stops might be a bit trying, and fighting for a bed could be fun!

I am sorely tempted, but a combination of lack of mileage for 2012 and the fact it starts the day after my girlfriend's birthday mean it may not happen.

Least I have just over two weeks to start thinking of ways of getting to it!

I'm the same regarding mileage, so next 7 months are going to be dedicated to miles and more miles.  Can't you ask your girlfriend to have an honourary birthday?
Afraid I can't really help you with travel.

Heh, not too sure how well the honorary birthday will be taken, but always worth a try!

Getting down to the start should hopefully be ok, I'm somewhat tempted to take part in the prologue from the Palace to the start if I go ahead with it.

Planning on riding Kinderquest?

Yes indeed, little Q will be the machine.  Apparently a few recumbentists and velomobilers did it last time in 2009, including Andy Allsopp.  If you want to read a lengthy set of forum posts about his ride it is here, just be patient and from the point he returns he does a day by day report.

Clearly I have started the process of losing braincells earlier than expected, Liz's birthday is in June, not July. So as a result, this could well be something I can commit to.

I'll have a read through the thread, I've got the book he wrote about it as well buried somewhere.

I believe the book is an expansion on the daily posts, so maybe you've read it all already!

I'm signed up to LEL, along with at least 5 other UK velomobile riders. Places are filling up very fast, over 500 places of the 850 places went in the first hour, by tommorrow the event maybe sold out.

any thoughts on the A66 between Trirk and Barnard Castel?
turn on to A1 around Bromton on Swale.
onto A66 till B6277.

folling google map seems to be some nice downhill sweeps on big onpe roads if you hit it at the right time.

also A10 route upto St.Ives?
this could be a good route for you faster riders wanting to clear some of the 180 rides that might be ahead of you down the back "b" roads

bad raod then :( at 4am?

and the A10 route?

Posted By: Yanto
Date Posted: 01 July 2013 at 9:11pm
A66, A1 is full of trucks 24hrs a day.  As for 4am, I have no plans of being near either road at that time!

No idea about A10, although I've heard it is very busy and fast.  TBH I haven't looked at routes in such detail yet.

The run from Thirsk to Barnard Castle is not bad anyway, a few climbs west of A1 but nothing compared with all the climbs further north.

BTW shouldn't discussions like this be by PM?

A10 from where to St Ives Graham??
The A10 is a fairly busy stretch of road... I cycled up the bit from the A414 at Hertford to the A120 quite a while ago on a ride from home to Clacton... Pretty grim!!
Not my favourite road as I was also knocked off a motorbike (Honda CB600 Hornet) on the A10 at the A414 roundabout... By my wife!!!!!

She was following me home in the car - I stopped at the roundabout and she didn't... Ouch

if you want, but gives Slash chance to see info to. we could move into riding Club activity if you think best then it is not there for the world to see.

I love 4-4:30am... been ding most of my rides from then ok perhaps a bit later 5am.

basicly m25 junction, A10 out of london sunday 6:30 should be ok I'd hope. guessing most of the front riders form 6am are going out quick. but it is still gonna be a few bikes to ride by if you have the pace.

there is one hill out of moffat few miles in. looks a bit interesting on the terrain profile. the whole up never seems to get steeper then what I have round here, but it dose seem to go on a long way on the map. scale wise about 5miles total 200m ish but mainly in the last mile or so

I've ridden that climb out of Moffat.  It's not especially steep, though it goes on a bit.  It would hold no fears for me to do it again with a loaded touring bike.  I have no experience of any sort of climb in a velomobile, though.  The descent the other side is also long and steady so you should find that rewarding.

Also, though an A road, it is not busy (I guess most people stick to the motorway).  In contrast, apropos of other questions in this thread, there's no way I would cycle on the stretches of the A1 and A66 mentioned.  If you get flattened on a dual carriageway in this part of the world, by a driver who decides that looking at the opposite carriageway is more important than looking in front of him, your grieving relatives probably won't even have the satisfaction of seeing him go to gaol: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-york-north-yorkshire-23007341" rel="nofollow - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-york-north-yorkshire-23007341

to ture ....

If the A10 is a goer on a sunday morn.
what you think of A10 to Roystone along the Old N Rd (a1198) and right abit by papworth to St Ives
perhaps?

Posted By: Yanto
Date Posted: 02 July 2013 at 9:52pm
not sure, I plan to start looking properly at routes next week, i'm currently more concerned with getting a route sorted for a 300k I'm doing on Saturday. Legs still a bit sore after the 600k last weekend!

At least with all the audaxes i'm doing i'm getting experience with the GPS, and getting consistent battery usage rates so I know how many batteries I need and in which drop bag.

The Road from Royston to Huntingdon is ok, long straight and wide. It continuously goes up and down which is fine in a velo as you will get the momentum to take you up the hills. Can be a bit of a busy road it there's problems on the M11/A14.
The old A1 runs parallel to the A1M up to Peterborough from Huntingdon also. Not looked at the route though so not sure if this is viable for LEL.
I used both on a night time DIY 200 a couple of years ago.
