As you know we are planning a weekend event at Fowlmead for 14th/15th September 2013... The plan is to have camping available on site again and hopefuly we will be joined by some of our friends from across the water... There will be lots of stuff to do to make this work and any offers of help will be very welcome... As with Fowlmead 2012 I'll set up an area on the forum where the people organising can work out who's doing what and when... and we'll keep everybody updated on here when we have more info. If you would like to be involved in making Fowlmead 2013 as good as (or even better than?) it was this year please add your name here... Ta. Alan

I can do the website (I would need to rename it though as it's not wc2012 anymore, I hope to be able to find time to get the results working properly this time too, Combination of a new job and trying to build up a new bike for CV 2 weeks later meant I ran out of time for the wc2012 site)

Psst, Alan!
The thread for Fowlmead organisators is visible to me on the RSS feed, even though it's not so on the Forum itself.
Thought you might want to know and obviously couldn't post this on that thread...
Hope this helps.

I would like to suggest that portaloos are NOT required, they were expensive for what you get, and lets face it a quick walk down to the visitors centre won't do athletes any harm!

Just a quick update... Online registration for Fowlmead will be available in a few weeks (thanks Lee!!!) and if you register in advance then the whole weekend of racing, camping and various other goodies to be announced shortly will cost just £20... Bargain...

Quick update...Fowlmead is now likely to be more like a "normal" BHPC race weekend but with camping included on site, rather than an event on the scale of WC2013. We are planning to have prizes for performance over the weekend, based on a handicap system so it may not only be the fastest of the fast that come out on top...

Must admit I wasn't aware of that one, but looking at it they only accept upright bikes (it says road bikes including hybrids...) so it shouldn't really take many of our potential entries...

Date Posted: 15 May 2013 at 9:00am
the thruxton event is being run as a proper BC race event so not recumbents they shopulc not event let hybrids. this is the lot last year that would not allow recumbent cos 'we are to unstable in corners' so unless you are a DF bhpcer ifs not going to effect us.
i have however sugeested next year they invit a bhpc team to enter ;-) I would further suggest as it is a close cct,we could offer our insureances to those invited riders .......

|
I think our insurance would only cover it if it was run as a BHPC event... They're certainly not competing with us on price... £1000 for a team of 4 or £240 if you guarantee to raise at least £1300 in sponsorship...

I can imagin a race being run by BHPC for invited members only ;) as for the cost yes alot...... but look at this way 6hr racing. that's 3-4 bhpc events, given the range some travel the off set cost is not far off the same. Never mnd the reason for the sponsorship..... alone.
there has been talk from a few member wanting to do long rides as the head toward forfilling their dreams.
BHPC dont run a 24 yet.....
jusy ideas anyway cheers g

The pedal car club run a 24 hour race each year at much lower cost - The re are always a few BHPC members there... I'm expecting to see at least 5 there this year...

Nothing to stop us running a 24 hour race in theory - The biggest problem is likely to be getting people willing to help organise it... Which is why we've had to scale down Fowlmead... We can't even get people other than the usual few regulars to organise 40 minute races!! We still have several events this year with no volunteer to organise...
-------------
|
Posted By: graydog
Date Posted: 15 May 2013 at 10:07am
yep I hear that......
24hr race could be almost self goventing..... each rider must provide their gps data at etc change to race control.... not need to have counters
marshals and first aid could be a bigger problem.... but perhaps time to test te water see if any one actually wants a 24, or is it all a good dream ;)

You may be wondering how the Fowlmead Festival will fit in with the BHPC Championship in terms of points, since the Festival is a single event and Fowlmead I and II are two events in the race calendar.
This is how it will work:
- The Festival will be treated as one event with four points races. Positions will be determined by performance across all four races, weighted as advertised on the http://hpvfestival.bhpc.org.uk/races" rel="nofollow - Festival Races page :
- 10% Flying lap
- 30% 1-hour time-trial
- 10% 10-min sprint
- 50% 2-hour mass start
- The race results will then be split into separate days for the purposes of the Championship, weighted as follows:
- Fowlmead I (Saturday):
- 25% Flying lap
- 75% 1-hour time-trial
- Fowlmead II (Sunday):
- 16.67% 10-min sprint
- 83.33% 2-hour race
So anyone who can only attend one day still scores in the Championship, although please note the following registration restrictions.
Finally, just a reminder that annual prepaid race fees don't cover the Fowlmead events. The normal pay-on-the-day race fee (£10/£7) is also suspended: the only way to pay for Fowlmead is with the all-in registration for the weekend (£25 adults, £12.50 juniors). Please pre-register on the http://hpvfestival.bhpc.org.uk/entry/" rel="nofollow - Festival website if at all possible to avoid a rush on the day.

I read somewhere of there being a handicap system in place for Fowlmead, how will this gel with BHPC points allocation? e.g, rider "x" on handicap wins overall, but rider "x" would normally be a middle ranker in BHPC races. EDIT: I have to say that i'm really sorry I can't make it, due to being on my hols. In my opinion the best track we race on. Plus interesting weather!

It won't have any effect on BHPC points - Mike has come up with a list of 60 or so regular BHPC riders and a target average speed for them... Prizes will be awarded to those that beat their target speeds by the greatest margin... Just a bit of fun really... Details and the list of riders and target speeds are here... http://hpvfestival.bhpc.org.uk/home" rel="nofollow - http://hpvfestival.bhpc.org.uk/home There may be a couple of changes (Leo will be added I believe)

In fact it's not really a handicap competition at all: target speeds for around 60 regular racers have been posted on the http://hpvfestival.bhpc.org.uk/home" rel="nofollow - Welcome page of the Festival website. This target will be compared with your speed in the 1-hour TT on Saturday and there will be a prize for the rider(s) with the greatest improvement.

Machines have to be in the same class... so for example Sarah is likely to be a good bit quicker in the Donkey than she was on the bagged KC, although she remains in the same class... Hot favourite for Juniors, Ladies and "handicap" winner perhaps??

Please note: Some of the classes shown here may be incorrect as there was a fair amount of bike-swopping going on... Many thanks to everybody who came along and took part or helped organise... Particularly Glyn, Andy and Gerry for their organising and tinming efforts!! Thanks to Lee for sorting online registration and to Lee, John Relton and Leo's Dad for marshalling... Thanks to Paul London for organising the Richard Ballantine Memorial Ride... Richard was very much involved in organising this weekend from the start of course. It was fantastic to see Shawn taking part on Richard's bike...

I do indeed have it, along with all the rest of the club kit. I will be coming to Curborough as a) I have the essential race kit - the stopwatches, and b) I still harbour hopes of a(nother) win over Derrick to minimise the points gap in Street and Sports classes. I'm gonna need a sackload of stamina to pull that off though....

The laps and times are the same but a couple of classes have been changed (Sam Relton not J and Mateusz Szczurek not U). Please let me know ASAP of any other bugs you may spot.

I shall post the results of Sunday's races in a separate topic ( http://forum.bhpc.org.uk/2013-fowlmead-2_topic4898.html" rel="nofollow - 2013 Fowlmead 2 ) to try and impose some sort of order on proceedings.

Thanks Leo, I won't be at Curborough but am going to Hillingdon if you or someone could take it there please. I am happy for it to got to Curborough to be available for use, hopefully not necessary. On the Curborough weekend I am joining some friends who are canoeing from the source of the Thames to Oxford, I am doing it on a bike, its not a race but probably will be after the second pint in the pub at the start! Regards Stuart

A photographer from the East Kent Messenger was taking shots as we were setting up on Saturday. Unfortunately she had to leave for a more important event before most of the Ballantine Riders returned but the results are available to see (and purchase!) here:

Many thanks to Alan Braley, our hardworking Publicity Tsar, for the local press interest.

£19.95 each(!!). If they were sensibly priced I may have bought some, but not for that kind of money.
