Anybody travelling a long distance to the Hillingdon this weekend may be well advised to fill up their fuel tank as soon as they can! Absolute chaos here in Hemel with several garages out of fuel and the rest with big queues... ------------- |

| I don't have recent experience with CrossCountry but I've never not been allowed onto a train (or even a replacement bus service) with with either of my bikes. Sometimes the journey needs a bit of planning, or the bike needs an allen key / some packing, or the station staff need a bit of charm to get around restrictions, but none of those are specific to a recumbent bike. |

Cross country trains will carry recumbents without fairings as long as you have a cycle reservation for the train you want to travel on There are only 3 spaces on Voyager trains and the single space is best. You hang the bike from a hook through the chainring. Take a bungee to tie the rear end to something .The double bike cabinet on the other side of the aile is awkward for my bike at least. Some cross country services use HS125 trains with a large space in the coach next to one engine but unlike Great Western 125s there are no racks to tie bikes to and they end up on the floor. Go with an open mind and be nice to the railway personnel. See you all soon, Tigger. ------------- dave T |
