2012 is the 30th anniversary of the Falklands war and, as I know you lot like to do a bit of cycling I have figured out a route 'round the M25'. OK, not actually on the motorway, but playing with it - sometimes inside, sometimes outside of the ring road (or London Car Park, as it is also known).

There is to be some kid of memorial event(s) over the weekend of 16th - 17th June (the cease-fire was signed on the 14th) so we shall start off from Horseguards Parade, 8.00 am Saturday 16th; head out to the M25 (A10 direction) and turn left. The first day will likely be about 100 miles, the second about 70; we shall stay in a Premier Inn standard hotel; I don;t expect to need a support vehicle - though if I can arrange one, I will; it's early days. On our return, we hope to fall in with the parade - somewhere near Horseguards Parade - where ever it goes.

Why round the M25? well, the Falklands are a fair way away. The M25, as a ride, is about the same distance our forces marched over there, 30 years ago (check out Wikipedia "Falklands War"). The route's on 'mapmyride.com'; check out the rides of 'paul-harding'.

Tell your friends, and give me your ideas.

Getting over the Dartford Crossing will be arranged by the local authorities - they do that, apparently.

One other thing - I started a Facebook group for this as well. Feel free to join.

Can you post a link to the Facebook group please?

This event will be the weekend after the HPV World Championships which are being held at Fowlmead in Kent...

Well, I'll give it a try - though whenever other folks have tried to access the fb group, I've had to add them as 'friends' first. Still, that's fb for you; here goes -

Just looked - I think that's because it's a "Closed" group on Facebook - You would need to change it to an open group to let anybody join...
