For once, I do remember who volunteered to organisate this one, though my failing memory was helped out by him reminding me at Darley Moor: Geoff Bird
Apropos of that, how about Geoff as the winning "homebuilder" this year? Not just for the elegant - and very purple - new lowracer that Fiona is now riding, but for the sheer number and variety of his bikes that have been on the track this year. By my count it's 6 machines.

Thanks for the kind comments Adrian and it is really nice to see so many of my bikes actually being used, although the credit should go to John & Martin for getting the bikes into working order. The truth is I only get round to building anything when I have weeks on end off work!
How about Ian Fardoe, who is patiently developing his velomobile into a viable alternative to commuting by car, as well as having a family and a demanding job? Or Mick Crick, who has designed and built a very effective arm and leg powered trike that is refreshingly different to anything anyone else is doing? Or Rob Hague, who has two jobs but has also found the time to build 2 different fairings for his Greenspeed? Any other nominations?
Oh, and what about Lee, who's creations are so professional, he didn't even immediately come to mind as a homebuilder!
In this age of widely available commercially-built machines, it's great to see that homebuilding is still so strong; There is still work that needs to be done and new avenues to explore...

I can see this rapidly going off topic , but I think it is a good idea to have a discussion ...
Like Geoff, I have been 'refreshed' by the effective arm and leg powered machine of Mick's. That would have my vote.

Having been on the receiving end of Mick's 'extra gear' at Lancaster I think he has to have my vote...

Shouldn't that be censored???
Aye, Mr Crick for me, not only must he be insane to devise it and build it, but more so to ride it (and fall off)!

Mine too - no disrespect meant to anyone else, but I think Mick's has been the most distinctive homebuild on the track this year.

Just realised something ...
Since I was the proud winner of the Homebuilder's Trophy last year, the decision on homebuilder for this year is mine, although I will obviously take into account more opinions that just mine.
Please PM with offers of bribes, knighthoods, etc ...

Rob is correct - The homebuilder trophy has always been decided by the previous year's winner...

Yes. Similarly, IIRC, the best newcomer (did the trophy ever resurface?) and unfortunate Scotsman.
I only intended my post to be a suggestion for Rob's consideration.

At the end of last season I passed the newcomer trophy back, I think to Heather, as I was not going to Hog Hill and named Neil Hood as winner. I suspect he has the trophy.

Thanks, Barney. That means it did resurface: I'm sure it was the newcomers' trophy that was missing for 2 or 3 years.

Ah, that's the one I was thinking of.
I knew it was one of the ones 'd previously had.

Sounds like we need a new one. Perhaps could be presented by Howard to this year's winner (could be amusing if he ends up presenting it to himself, but never mind that ...)
Any volunteers for something creative ?

As the initiator and maker of the trophy, Rob is right. He chooses, but of course he can consult. It was originally intended for new home builders, so you could only win it once, but that has not continued. I think Mick is a good candidate, but if Lee didn't win it for the Correx fairing, I think he should have. Geoff has been somewhat on the bridge between homebuilder and manufacturer, but then I contract out the composite work when I can.
Mick might be a good candidate for the newcomers trophy too. Is he well up in the multitrack?
