They've been talking about it for years but this looks like it might actually be about to happen. No-one seems to be selling it yet but Wiggle were pretty quick with the 650C ZX when it came out.

I mailed St John street cycles they said they'd be getting them in the first two weeks of December. Now sit down at £34.99! a tyre. Hopefully they will make a skinnier tube to match as SV6A 28-40mm 406 will be a bit fat for a 23mm tyre

at £35 quid a pop (sometimes literally) i can't afford to race on them, on last seasons usage that's £420... hello formula one running costs!!

Next season i will use a different tactic, very slow round the corner then flat out and brake (without locking up), slow round the corner etc etc

Just ordered some from SJS cycles they've had them in stock since the 16th Dec. They don't have any tubes narrow enough for them yet though. 28mm tube in a 23mm tyre will be a squeeze. I have some 400-19mm tubes that will fit for now. They expect to get tubes some time early next year. I'll take them for a test run over the hols and report back.

Congratulations - you've even beaten Mike B, who has a red telephone which connects direct to Herr Schwalbe, although he has got hold of some 451s.

Would the Schwalbe SV7B (23-451) be an acceptable fit on a 406 rim? Slightly too large OD but at least the right cross-section. Not sure which is more important to get right.

don't think a 451 would work you'd have top have a fold in it to get it in. Would be better to use the skinniest 406 tube you have and shoe horn in for time bieng until Santa Schwelbe comes back from holiday. Stretching a 16 or 17 inch tube might make it a little narrower. Or I could loan you a couple of the 400-19mm tubes (supplies of these seem to have dried up) until a skinny tube is available from Schwalbe

I remember someone once telling me they cut sections out out of inner tubes if they didn't have the right size. Could have been Jonathan W. No doubt there are some who vulcanise their own rubber, extracted from their own trees.

Jonathan managed to shorten tubes when they were scarce. When I tried it to make skinny small 406 tubes by cutting up 700c one's they blew up, wrong type of glue I suspect!. You have to use a small piece of plastic tube with a slot cut in one side so taht you can overlap the tubes while the glue dries. Then the slot enables you to remove the tube when it is dry. They also used to make tubes that were straight with sealed ends and you overlapped the ends slightly when you put them in the tyre. Also meant you could change tubes without removing the wheel
