Many thanks to all those doing the organising...

Everything seemed to go very well.

I bloody love Preston. What a fantastic facility.

Yes thanks to all concerned for the organising.

I agree about Preston - it is certainly one of the most advanced facilities we have had!

I just wish I had done a bit more cycling this year and perhaps I would have been able to keep up with you

Question about Preston:

Lap length.

I see it's listed on this site as 1.58km.

One of our chaps GPS-ed it last year and got (I think) 1.55km; I've seen it quoted at various lengths (mostly 1.5km or 1 mile/1609m) in various other places. Most recently the arena staff have quoted 1.5km at one of our racers who phoned to check. Although I'm more than willing to accept this is the "standard" figure that gets quoted to people who ring up...

We seem to be having something of an argument about it at the moment so we'll be taking (yet another) measurement at the weekend when we visit.

I wont be surprised if we get yet another different figure. Or two, given it'll be done by GPS and cycle computer.

So, question: Is the 1.58km quoted on this site the result of a measurement, or a quote from another source?

Thanks!

Shame we didn't fit Charles' pedal car with a computer then he could have measured it whilst racing and killed 2 stones with 1 bird.

Racing is life...
Anything which happens before or afterwards is just standing around waiting to race....

I measured it this year and last year at 0.98 miles (+/- 0.005 miles), which is 1577m (+/- 8m), but that was a racing line rather than midline.

My speedo won't be totally accurate, but I'd be surprised if the true track length was only 1500m. I assumed 0.98 miles racing line meant the midline was actually 1 mile, but haven't checked that with anyone.

Where do the track lengths on our website come from anyway? Dave??

Some photos by Nigel Bradder now at: http://www.onwebnow.co.uk/hpvfun/events_pages/lancaster_2005 .htm

I will be showing some of my own photos at the next race meeting if anyone wants to have a look, I'm sure I can find some reprints somewhere if anyone is particularly taken. All strictly Non-Digital .
