I seem to remember that there is an age limit of 70 on riders in BHPC races. Is this the case? If so, is it a requirement of our insurers?

If possible, I would like to see the age limit extended to 75. It would appear that the rapidly accelerating decline in endurance sport performance does not set in until about then. We have several riders who are approaching the current age limit, and who may have no desire to retire from competition. In particular, a certain elder statesman of the sport from that city whose football team won 6-0 on Saturday Big smile may wish to continue to dish it out to people much younger than him for as long as he can build better, faster machines...

There is no upper age limit (or lower age limit) specified by our insurers...
I'm not aware of any upper age limit in BHPC events and I would very strongly oppose one! I think we should encourage anybody who wants to take part...

I had to do a double-take on the date of Nick's post.  Surely I must have missed it since last Friday?  No, doesn't look like it was an April Fool post.

I've never seen any mention of an upper age limit in BHPC races, and I don't see why there should be one, other than to give me a chance of ever winning a championship again...Wink

It is the responsibility of all Riders to ensure they are in a fit state to race - get checked over by your doctor if you are in any doubt - and I don't think the club needs to or should set any arbitrary limits (other than the lower age limit, to ensure a level of maturity consistent with safety).

I think the minimum age should be 46 and the maximum age should be 48, reviewed on a yearly basis. Of course people under/over those ages can still turn up and race, they just won't be eligible for any prizes?! LOL

Well, it would at least give me a chance of winning a trophy. Embarrassed

As I'll still be 48 years old for nearly all of this season I think this idea is well worth consideration... Wink
