Me and Kev both went out in the last race today. I was going to be in the previous one but it started 10 minutes early and I hadn't even got my shoes on...
It could just be that I wasn't a very organised organiser...

Not so.
That's only the second time I've taken part and I can only draw on old
experience of running football teams to empathise with what you're
talking about - somehow we all just turn up and expect it to just
happen, but it never happens without somebody somewhere putting in a
lot of time and effort.
For my part, thanks anyway.

Anne and I second those sentiments! We both had a great time (despite
car trouble on the way: thanks AA) . If anybody can tell me how
to persuade my Kingcycle over 20 mph, I'm all ears -
probably not good aerodynamically, come to think of it.
We are now proud guardians of a pair of shades, silver grey with broad oval lenses - yours, Mr Veal?
Who's ever they are, post us a private message if you'd like us to mail them on, unless you can wait till Darley Moor.
Cheers, Neil & Anne

Kevin
I think Paul Davies did 18 laps. He lapped me on the penultimate lap, so his average should be about 2 mph faster than me. My average is exactly what I had on my computer. I don't remember Rob coming past me, so Paul should be 3rd overall. My team mate still beat him though!

I'm happy to update the results BUT the race results were up and displayed within 15 minutes of the last rider finishing each particular race. The full results were available at the end of the race. That allows plenty of time for anyone to complain about the figures at the time rather than after. I worked quite hard to get the results out on the day, effectively straight after the race, I do not want to spend the rest of the week correcting them afterwards just because people couldn't be bothered to look at them on the day!
Sorry for the rant but there has been a fair bit of work by a lot of people and it does not seem unreasonable that people take a couple of minutes of time to check them on the day. That way the result is finalised at the event! That seems a better way to go to me and is fair for those that don't have these new fangled computer things. Maybe we can find a standard way of displaying these so people know where to look?

Hi Kevin
I'm not complaining, just providing information. Paul will be the only one to lose out.
I absolutely agree that it should be the responsibility of the competitor to check the results, but I think this needs to be stated explcitly and, as you say, have a standard proceedure for displaying the results. I did a laminated list of instructions for each rider to read at sign on, some time ago. I'll dig it up and bring an updated copy to the next race, so everyone (incuding newcomers) are clear what's required of them.
We've just discovered that the Lancaster/Preston meeting coincides with the Hook Norton Beer Festival . We're inconsolable...

Sorry Geoff wasn't a get at you and I agree that we should make it explicit when you sign on. I think having a central point where you sign on and the information/results are displayed is probably the best way forward.

On another note, what did people feel about the races. We felt that the numbers meant that we had to move to four races rather than 3 (55 in total), which is why the times came down to 30 mins from the planned 40.
What did people think? - was this good? bad? Should we have had a lot more crowded races and fewer.

I had a great time, and am not complaining.
I think the result of the smaller numbers in each race was partly that
they were more time-trial like. I found myself alone on the track
virtually the entire time.
There was no danger that having races with more people in them would have made the track overcrowded.
The difference can be seen as a problem or a benefit depending on your
point of view. I quite like the idea that races will vary.
As well as posting of the results, it would have been helpful for the
lineup for each race to have been posted somewhere. It took me a while
to find out which race I was in. Maybe we should have a convention
where the list is put on a board near the clock, or something like that
?

No worries, Kev. I've found that instruction sheet - will bring some to the next race. I agree with David that we could have got away with more riders in each race, but I can understand you erring on the side of caution. Some tracks are worse than others in this respect. Lancaster and MK are both dangerous when overcrowded, IMHO.
