Hello all, I've been running conti sport contacts front and rear on my bents, both 26in rears and both running 20in (406) fronts.
Does anyone have alternative tyre recomendations for narrow high pressure sections or is the logic to go to 700c rears? cheers |

Schwalbe Durano.... My favourite tyres.
Available in 26 (559) and 20 (406). |

Have used Schwalbe Durano on the road and track and they seem OK.
Ultremo ZX for racing are faster but the 406 fronts I used punctured on roads within 1 week. For this reason alone I would avoid this tyre. One tyre (406) are fast and are said to have better puncture protection than the Ultremo ZX. I have the One tyre but have not used it enough to give a report. Kojack tyres (559) for rear seem OK. They do not puncture too often. |

I've used Kojaks (35x406) for years and they are durable but I'm increasingly convinced they are not that fast. Ian Fardoe recommended Panaracer Minits Lite (32x406) which are certainly fast and seem fine so far for road use. Dunno if they do a 559 though. The PT version has puncture protection.

I tried a 406 Durano for the first time on the Elenydd last weekend. I did get one deflation, but that was because of a badly installed tube. Otherwise the tyre was fine, bit harsh, but you'd expect that on an unsuspended homebuild!
However, one thing I did discover prior to setting for Shrewsbury - metal tyre levers are essential for these tyres when road riding. Accept no other. I've never known such a brute of a combination as a Durano 406 and an Alex AV15 rim. Edited by garryb59 - 19 April 2015 at 10:39am |
