    Posted: 17 December 2023 at 10:00am
Good morning.
My Quatrovelo wheels and wheel wells are getting very dirty with the seasonal road crud.
What is the best way to remove it.
Up until now I have just turned it on the side and brushed and washed it out with as little water as I can.
Can I use a power washer.
Is it better or not to use a low pressure bottle sprayer like those used to spray lawns with weed killer.
Is it best to use a hose and bucket.
It is all my own fault for roaming the Hampshire back lanes that are in very poor condition.
Thanks
Mark

The poor condition of the Hampshire back lanes is not your fault surely?

I can't answer for specifics of Quatrovelo, but enclosed wheel wells I just put the velo on it's side and use a long stick, doesn't remove all of it, but it helps.

With an open wheel well I take the wheel off, bag the drum brake use a wheel brush and/or sponge with car shampoo, don't be tempted to use washing up liquid as most have salt in them. If the brake shoes do get wet then a hot air gun soon dries them, then make sure there's no grit on the shoe's surface.

As for pressure washer, I wouldn't, too easy to force crap into bearings, plus any opening into the velo's insides will be awash with water and debris.

My school English teacher will be turning in his grave. Was his struggle in vain trying to instil the laws of grammar in my juvenile brain. Luckily as a geologist all I needed in my career was a big hammer.

Mark, I didn't mean to criticise your grammar, I took aim at the poor condition of the Hampshire back lanes (or UK roads in general for that matter...).

Hi Mark,
Can't offer advice on cleaning; but would love to know where in Hampshire you are riding. I'm also in Hampshire so would love to see a Quattro on the flesh.
