This reminds me, many years ago.....early 90's, when into MTB's before they were a 'thing' I had a similar idea. Friends mocked, but undeterred I contacted BOC and was put through to their R+D department. The chap, a keen cyclist himself, listened and did not laugh. 'Leave it with me ' he said. About 3 weeks later , a call from BOC, 'Hello' he said....... Well the chap had done a multplissimo of tests, on Butyl tubes of all makes, even latex tubes, but found that the gas was too thin for the porous tubes and leaked out too fast to be of any use. 10/10 for effort me thinks.

That's why pure Nitrogen stays in few days longer than air, it has bigger molecules than the oxygen and the other gases in air which leak out more quickly. I had trouble getting a cylinder of Nitrogen at a reasonable cost, so in the end I bought a compressor like Kim's. Works fine.
All the best. Roy Edited by RoyMacdonald - 07 July 2022 at 7:32pm |
