Thought I should move this on as it’s not getting used.

http://forum.bhpc.org.uk/sold-hpv-speedmachine_topic7293.html?KW=Speed

That is the previous for sale thread from which I bought it.

I’ve ridden it less than 10 times in total (25 mile round trip to work) I have changed the tyres (they were ok but quite worn and I wanted an improved rolling resistance) and tubes (they weren’t quite the right size) and I have also replaced the chain (the old one was knackered). It rides a lot better now, and these simple things gained me a lot on my average speed on the commute. I’d like my money back on it ideally (£500) as the wear and tear I’ve added will be negligible and I’ve spent a fair amount on it. I was clearly being optimistic when I bought this as I’ve hardly used it and my job has now changed so it’s definitely not going to get used again anytime soon.

The bike is located in Coningsby, Lincolnshire. Any questions please feel free to message me.

I am wondering about this bike but am a bit wary about the pedal height. I think it is some 10 inches above the seat. How do you find it at start-off ? I built a P38 clone with a mesh seat. This has pedals 6 inches above seat height which was difficult. I suspect a narrow hardshell seat might make this a little easier since you can get you feet down each side of the seat.
You hinted the bike is slow, but improved with new tyres - what about the wheel bearings. Cycled to Conningsby recently from Boston to view the jets.

Hi Bob, I've just gone to eye it up and measure it, you're pretty close, I'd say its 9-10" from the very bottom of the seat.  I never really had any issues starting off unless I was substantially in the wrong gear, this was my first ever recumbent and if I'm honest I was surprised how easy it was to get the hang of it all.  The speed was a little down from what I was hoping for at first, but I think I was being overly optimistic from reading too much about velomobiles etc.  Also my cycling fitness isn't what it once was and as I've heard people mention on here, the power isn't directly related, it takes a little while to build up your legs to ride a recumbent efficiently.  That said the new tyres and chain definitely improved things, the wheel bearings seemed totally fine so I didn't touch them.  My first ride after changing the tyres took my average speed from around 19mph to 21mph.

It is definitely easy / comfortable to put both feet down when stationary, in fact I could just about put a hand down, so in some circumstances I didn't even need to unclip.

Bob, if you haven't ridden a Speedmachine before, especially the earlier (slightly lower) version like this, then you should also think about your knees. If you ride 'knees in' then there is a lot of frame in the way as you reach full leg extension. If you're 'knees out', or if your knees are happy accommodating a wider Q-factor, you'll be fine.

My knees-in stance is why I had to sell my own Speedmachine in the end. Part of me still misses it, because it was fast and otherwise extremely comfortable, but I've cycled ten times as many miles on my P-38.
