Right, I’ve finally relented and have joined Facebook. Primarily because WHPSC use it as their primary means of communication and I’m going to miss out on vital comms if I’m not on it.
Any tips? I’ve asked mates and the general feedback is: ‘stay off it - it’s largely sh!te that you don’t need in your life, but they’re very clever at drawing you in with something you’ve got an actual interest in - the algorithm very quickly learns what you respond positively to and offers more and more and more and more…’ Edited by russellbridge - 26 October 2021 at 1:28pm |

I usew it quite a bit and don't have many problems. Lots of advertising but I just ignore it. The groups are useful... I'd say the BHPC group on there is more active than these forums now. |

Just use it as a way to communicate with your friends and find out what they are up to and get information about things that interest you. You can ignore the rest. Don't get drawn into arguments with ignoranuses - it is not good for your mental health and achieves nothing (don't ask me how I know this...).

The main practical problem with Facebook, apart from most of the discussion of [insert name of group here] events now taking place behind a "sign-up to Facebook" banner, is that it makes it borderline impossible to dredge up useful information in old posts.
This forum may be clunky and terminally uncool, but the BHPC owns the data.

Limit personal input into posts, have "friends" but only people you know or you know are associated with groups you join, join groups that are of interest or use.
I'm a member of BHPC, Recumbent and Velomobile, Velomobile Club of Great Britain, (a couple of other specific model velomobile groups), couple of Audax groups and Morgan owners, all are used to inform, be informed, have a laugh and odd brain storming sessions (or is that termed "facebook hive knowledge input"?). If someone comes across as a religious, self righteous or cultish in any matter just block their posts so you don't even see their inane drivel. PS Don't take the Mickey out of your wife, she will find out, have enough of it one day then the next morning you will awake to a searing stinging pain in your groin and your ballsin your mouth, yes I'm looking at you Mr Goodman PPS. I like the way the swear filter changed bllx to ballsin ![]() Edited by Yanto - 27 October 2021 at 6:44am |

If you’re accessing it using a browser on a Proper Computer then this Unit endorses the FB Purity plugin, which does a fine job of filtering out sh*tverts, allows you to see Stuffs in an order more closely related to your preferences than those of THE ALGORITHM and generally makes Farcebok approximately 62.8% less horrible. Also, it's free.
Do not quote lines from “Father Ted” out of context, suggest that breaking Nick Griffin’s nose with a hammer would be anything other than a Bad Thing or poke the humourless with your +4 Sword of Sarcasm — this latter saw even Toronto's mild-mannered superhero Calvin Moes labelled as a troll
