Hay guys and girls, Just started my latest project today trying to get up and running for the next race!

It will make more sence when I put the rear wheel carrier on tomorrow, Im thinking of putting
the stearing underneeth, does anyone know of a way to steer without using normal forks??
Its still another prototype, shall see how it all goes!

Not being clairvoyant (or even beleiving that such a thing exists), I may be barking up the wrong tree here, but I guess you mean whether there are steering systems that don't require a headset Paul?

I'm not sure if your machine has 2, 3 or 4 wheels, but assuming it has one wheel at the front, then there are a couple of methods of providing steering that would probably suit a structure like the one pictured. The first principal was used on a motorbike called an O.E.C in the 1930s and consisists of a converging 4-bar linkage. They were positioned above the wheel and below the axle, but there is no reason why a more compact mechanism closer to axle height couldn't be used.

Another way, used by both Mike Burrows and Miles Kingsbury in the past, is to have a steering axis alongside the wheel, but angled in front view, such that the steering axis meets the ground at the bike's centreline. The angle of the axis should be minimised to make good-handling more likely.

I guess hub-centre steering would be over-ambitious for completion before Darley Moor...

Hope this helps

How Do Paul n' All.

Whatcha Making Paul? is it a trailer? LOL Sorry I could not help myself.
But really; maybe you are lookign for something like Johnathan Woolrich's Hocus Pocus steering set up?
this is the only picture I can find at the moment, from Dave's (leg's Larry) site.
I hope this helps a little. I am not overly farmilliar with the deatials, but it is hub centre steering similar to what Geoff has mentioned, just the handle bars are in a different position.
photo stolen or linked to from Leg's larry's web site, please shout at me if I have breached copyright and I will rewmove the photo from the post.

Take care,
Barry ;-)

Just added the rear wheel carrier onto it, and some triangulation to keep it strong! 700c fits well
Now onto the steering, and most importantly, pedle power!!

Please can someone tell me what smaller wheels do you use on you recumbents??

I as thinking about using a front Raleigh chopper wheel, as most 20" BMX type rims are too wide?

Thanks, Paul

How Do Paul,

It is starting to make sence now, and I think I see where you are going with this idea, looking forward to seeing the finished item; and knowing you; that will be about 16:00 hours tomorrow LOL

if you are lookign at 20" wheels for the front, look at the 406 size, possibly something like this might do you .

I hope this helps.

Take care,
Barry ;-)
