Topic: Eastway/Hillingdon... Posted: 07 May 2005 at 6:13pm |
Thanks for all the efforts at Eastway chaps.
Any tips prior to Hillingdon will be welcome...
Two out of four juniors dropped out at Eastway so any thoughts on a seperate 20 minute race for them if enough turn up??
That's if I don't get any decent bids for the stopwatches on Ebay...

Well we managed to run a shorter race for the juniors at Castle Combe.
You'll have to rig up a run-off area for them to avoid any
crashes on the line though - there may be some cones in one of the
storage areas, check with Dennis.

Good thinking...
I'll probably just see how many kids turn up and see what they want to do when they've had a look round the track. It may be that it was just the hills at Eastway that caused the problems...
I thought the format at Eastway with 3 races worked pretty well, by the way.

Thanks Alan,
I would have thought that it would be feasable to have a kids only race if required. Having two races at the same time is a bit of a pain and the track is a lot narrower at Hayes.
As for hints at Hayes. I'll make sure there are some upto date sign on sheets and I'll bring the lap top and show you haow to use it (would prefer someone else types in, but happy to stand and help!). Just want to see if anyone else can use it. If you have excel I can send it to you so that you can look through it and see how it works (It isn't that complicated I hope!). Should make it easy to sort out the race split (only took a couple of minutes at Eastway), and the results can be input and printed out at the race. In an effort to keep people there what do people think of printing out the results after the race and people should object at that time if they think there is any discrepancy (or for ever hold their peace!).

Sounds good to me as well.
A seperate kids race would be ideal if enough of them turn up.
Maybe seperate races will actually encourage more kids to take part.
Dave's wife Nikki did say that she'd be willing to help so she might well be able to type the numbers in while I ride in one of the races.
I've got Excel here and it would be really useful to have a look in advance...

Thanks Alan - I have your email now - I would advise you to edit the above and remove it.

Provisional results on the day are a v.v. good idea. I (and I'm sure
many others) record my time and distance (which gives no of laps), and
always feel bad about causing hassle by challenging the published
results days later. It would also be a big help to sort out disputes of
the 'I passed you twice' / 'I only saw you once' variety when all
parties are actually still present.
However it does sound like a even longer day for the Keeper of Thee Results though.

Andrew
There are further plans afoot to help in the administration of the racing. The use of Kevin and his amazing laptop on Saturday gave us a starting point to work from, and it was amazing how much of a help the software wot Kevin wrote was (certainly for me). As the systems are refined, running races and getting results out will get easier and more accurate, with less time for the Keeper ov thee Records required to 'process' and formally publish the results.
