Review of Wyke Community Sports Village Cycle Circuit for BHPC

Ridden Saturday 5th Nov 2022 – Barney Harle

I was able courtesy of Mandy at East Bradford Cycle Club to grab a quick anticlockwise lap of the outer circuit on the wooden low racer in a gap at their kids session.

 Positives

Wonderful new tarmac

Track is in a separate fenced enclosure

No lamppost or near fence post issues

2 loops inner and outer linked by “possible” hairpins to make a giant double sided C, there are more cut throughs but only one pair looked feasible for racing

Big car park

New facilities building – HOWEVER it is locked and not fully operational as the Council has yet to find an operator

Plenty of off track space to park and fettle bikes

Gradients are gentle and long – think Stourport not step and sharp like Gravesend

In one of the better suburbs of Bradford and far better than I had expected from main road commuting

Negatives

No operator for facilities or track – need to book via spurious contacts at Bradford Council or British Cycling

Loos, changing etc. by arrangement only

Track is fully boked every Saturday till 1pm

Gradients and cut throughs may deter velomobiles and fastest of streamliners but could provide good racing.

Football pitches adjacent and they can apparently make the facility very busy when holding tournaments.

Power to track side – not sure – EBCC have containers adjacent the start finish line with power.

I have contacts if anybody wants to talk to either the Council or British Cycling

Personally I’d love to race here but would advise waiting till 2023 when the facilities block and booking system is sorted.
