I've looked at the race card: http://www.cyclevision.nl/wedstrijd.php ...but I don't understand. What's a "Behendigheidsparcours"? And a "Steering criterium"? And what on earth is a Slakkenrace? The latter sounds as though it might be just right for me... but I think I'll just watch the four hour crit! Edited by NickM |

Dear recumbent enthousiasts,
behendigheidsparcours = manouvrability trial, this will cease to exist this year Steering criterium = race with narrow corners and short distances, possibly also not held this year Slakkenrace = snail race, a track with a OkeJa or similar bike with which only slow speed counts, people who take the longest time over a certain distance are winners here. For some strange reason Frederik Vanderwalle, recumbent champion over a couple of years was a winner. More info on the race in http://www.ligfiets.net/nieuws/bericht.php3?id=1420& volledig=1 and for the winners 2005, in multiple categories so that almost everybody who participates is a winner : http://www.ligfiets.net/nieuws/bericht.php3?id=1437&v olledig=1 Greetings, Jack, must keep his mouth shut about other devolpments until 2nd of February |

So Jack, are there any further developments that you can tell us about now? And other members of the British contingent, have you made transport and accomodation plans yet? We (that's MsM and me) will be sailing on the 1040 Harwich - Hook of Holland ferry on Friday 19th. Having read about last year's weather, we're taking the car as mobile bikeshed/refuge... On the Sunday evening, we'll drive off to a new base for cycling exploration (any suggestions? we haven't been to Holland before). We're planning to stay in "Friends of the Bicycle" B&Bs if we can.

Hello Nick,
you want to know more about the developments? Well, maybe i can shine some light into the new prospects. The national bureau for foreign visitors organises the yearly Fietsdag with nearly 200.000 cyclists participating. From investigation on cycling behaviour they discovered that longer running events such as 4-day cycling events attract more visitors. (15 percent for 1-day, compared to 27 percent for 4-day) The information can also be found in http://www.ligfiets.net/nieuws/bericht.php3?id=1661&voll edig=1 This new event can probably be the biggest cycling event in The Netherlands, or probably even Europe. And we were very lucky to have rented Zandvoort. Beforehand the national bureau wanted to close off the big road A10 around Amsterdam, however this was not possible. Then they looked for another possibility on 21 may, and there were we! We now do a cooperation. So our racing scheme will take somewhat longer because their programme on sunday is not really put together yet. But we will see more activities, and more important a lot of visitors (i wrote to Peter Eland from Velovision that there could also be insane amounts of people) and lots and lots of pr! I consider our event very lucky to be part of this big scheme, and also to be the last event in the row. This has wonderful opportunities. We will most likely make entrance free for public, so only parking costs are there (but they are everywhere). Where can you find a big event with a lot going on with free entrance, we really must be mad! More information will follow within a few weeks. For people who want to camp, the Camp site De Branding has developed an entrence form http://www.hetisgeregeld.nl/Cycle/ online. We have made arrangements for some reduction on prices i believe. Greetings, Jack |
