I just wish we had more of those old-school roadies in charge of road maintenance...

Once I had the wheel in my hands I was reminded of a more legitimate reason for preferring a narrower tyre: the 23-406 One is an almost perfect match, widthwise, to the deep carbon rim on the Ratty's front wheel, hence good aero.

Meanwhile I have found an ancient 23mm Durano which should see me through Darley Moor. Or which will explode spectacularly on the first hairpin...

I think Mike Burrows still has good contacts at Schwalbe - you could ask him to ring and see if they’ve got any old stock

Hi Andrew, these people make a racing 25mm 406 tyre if you can buy it. http://josephkuosacblog.wordpress.com/jk-strozzapreti-tire/

Any good?

I bought one that was the original Kingcycle 349 size from SJS cycles. They may be able to get the other sizes to special order. Seemed a nice tyre.< id="BFI_" style="width: 1px; height: 1px; display: none;">

I also have a 28mm 406 Pro One tubeless if you want it?

All the best.
Roy

A to B magazine reviewed the Joseph Kuosac tyre some time ago and rated it as one of the worst they’d ever tested, saying “ These tyres are simply not fit for purpose. They are useless on tarmac, and the narrow, rather domed slick tread will dig deep into anything else...We buy this rubbish so you don’t have to, and we can give clear-cut advice on this one. Don’t touch it with a barge pole.”

I did a search to see what other people thought of the Strozzapreti tyres and this was what I found. Not a lot but not a lot of critics, just the reverse.
Roy

A conti-shod Brommie won UHC folding bike category last year (they look way faster than the Marathon Racers that apparently have worse rolling resistance than a standard Marathon). Another with Joseph Kuosac Strozzapreti Race Pro tyres (and carbon rims) did pretty well, considering his hangover, although they're not a particularly long-lasting tyre apparently.

  • JK’s STROZZAPRETI Tires received a huge amount of attention after the first place of 2017 BWC, Unai Alvarez Mosquera, happened to be using JK tires for the race. Photographs of the cyclist was taken on the stage, and many people started to purchase JK’s STROZZAPRETI tires.

Interesting, I had never heard of the Joseph Kuosac brand. They are based in Japan and appear to cater to the mini velo market. It looks like a nice tyre except at 25 mm it is too narrow for the rough roads around here, especially for a small diameter tyre.

According to this page on the Joseph Kuosac website it is also available in 25-355 and 25-406. http://www.joseph-kuosac.com/products/?page=2

Roy, if you’re having trouble downloading the A to B magazine after buying it, PM me your email address and I’ll send you a copy.

I suppose the trouble is that most of what we read online is anecdotal so it’s difficult to know what to believe And of course a strong rider with slow tyres will probably be faster than a weak rider with fast ones!

I was considering the JK tyres for my Moulton AM (they used to be available in 369 too) and found the A to B review when researching them. The article was enough to convince me not to buy but I haven’t actually used the tyres myself! If you have and you’re happy with them, then all good

Thanks Gavin. I would be interested to see exactly what the AtoB tester didn't like about it.

Yes, I didn't read or see any negative revues before I bought one for the Kingcycle. I was looking for a alternative to the Kojak about which I had read negative things about the rolling resistance. I was running on a Wobler with which I was very happy (apart from the price of £75 a tyre!) But they stopped making them. My only concern about the JK was it was obviously a very light tyre, but as it was marketed as a racing tyre I thought that was acceptable. Price wasn't bad either, and I could buy 4 for the price of one Wobler. I used to do a lot of my training on rough country roads, that was the reason for my concern.< id="BFI_" style="width: 1px; height: 1px; display: none;">

All the best.
Roy
