BUMP STEVE: If you want to have any chance of this running as a BHPC event in 2012 you need to get a proposal with full details to the committee VERY quickly. The event will not be covered by BHPC insurance if it is not a BHPC event. As far as I am aware you have not yet joined the BHPC? There has been very little activity on here or on the other forum (http://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=53401.60) since November with no further details being made available. Organising WC2012 is going to take a lot of time and effort and we are going to struggle to put on another major event such as this, even if the committee receive a proposal with full details in the very near future... I certainly would like it to be a BHPC event.
Please could you point me in the direction to who I should send a proposal to.
All that is done so far is to book the venue. I have kept quiet, thinking that BHPC would get back to me on whether it is to be run as one of their events. I have been thinking about asking, but having checked the events and seein nothing there, I assumed that the 2012 season hasn't been decided yet.
The planning of the event still has to be done. I do need to join BHPC and ride some events so that I have a better idea of how BHPC events are done and learning from other riders and organisers.
I'm aiming to run this event with as little need for help as possible. Unless there things behind the scenes that I don't know about, it will be a matter of placing facilities in the circuit for food, timing, water and toilets.
If BHPC refuse it as an event, then it isn't definitely the end as I'd consider running a guerilla event.

Assuming this event happens, then anyone is invited. My aim is to encourage 24 hour cycle racing for all.

It really needed to go to Adrian (competition secretary)... But I believe he's away at the moment so if you send it to me I'll ask the rest of the committee to make a decision...
I believe the BHPC race calendar is pretty much complete for 2012 now - I know that Adrian has been doing a lot of work on it over the last few weeks...
One option may be to run it as a BHPC event without being part of the championship.
At the end of the day if it's a BHPC event then the BHPC committee will be responsible for it - As we haven't run a 24 hour race before (to my knowledge?) we would have to be confident that it is going to be well organised before taking it on.
Are any current BHPC members (ie somebody who is accountable via the committee to the people who pay for the club's insurance) willing to take on organising this event?
One thing that will definitely need considering for a 24 hour event is camping arrangements - From past experience with WC2008 it's do-able but somebody needs to make sure stuff gets done... Things such as mking sure that if people are going to camp on site that you have the appropriate licence from the local authority... That will probably mean a visit from somebody to look at facilities, potential fire hazards, spacing between tents etc...
Again from past experience it is likely to take time and would need looking at pretty quickly...

Might be worth asking the pedal car boys for their input. They run 24 hour events regularl.

I am happy to advise.
What do you want to know?
However, this event could not run under BFPCR insurance I am afraid due to the vehicles not being pedal cars. Edited by jes@gcre - 17 January 2012 at 9:24am |

Racing is life...
Anything which happens before or afterwards is just standing around waiting to race.... |

I have not heard any more from anybody on this so I am now assuming it will not be a BHPC event in 2012. |
