And this is your organiser, wondering what kind of events would be most popular with y'all. Any (sensible) suggestions considered - we aim to please!

I will be present from 10 o'clock. Registration will start as soon as possible after I arrive, and I would like racing to get under way no later than 11:30. We have the circuit until 4pm, so to make best use of our time it would seem to be sensible to have more than one type of race, attendance and weather conditions permitting. How about a one lap flying start time trial, followed by a Zolder-style Le Mans start circuit race?

In case attendance is modest and we decide to run the endurance race as a full-field event (which experience shows is feasible, safe and fun at the Sundorne circuit) would all racers please ensure that their machines have easily-readable numbers at front and left-hand sides - as per BHPC race rules!

How Do All

Just wondering if anyone is passing my way, and might have enough room to squeeze me and my bike in for the Shrewsbury race? I am just off junction 4, M4, 1 mile north of Heathrow. I would be very grateful and happily cross your palm with silver for fuel.
The reason I ask is that even getting the earliest available train from here would not get me there in time to race.

Thanks in advance if anyone is able to.

Take care,
Barry

I'd still like to try it in the opposite direction... It seems better like that when I've raced pedal cars there. I know some people think it wouldn't be safe that way round, but it's certainly no worse than Curborough where we run two-way traffic with just a line of cones down the middle...

The particular issue with going the other way round at Shrewsbury is that riders would then be coming down the slope - I guess streamliners could be getting close to 40mph - through a combination of bends, the last of which would be a left-hander of something like 70 degrees, and considerably tighter than the preceding bends.

When I was CompSec it was always my judgment that the risk of a rider losing it around that bend made the chances of a high-speed crossover collision too great.  At Curborough the radius of the bend entering the contraflow section is much wider and the potential speeds lower.   (Interesting to see that Google's aerial of Curborough appears to have been taken during a bike race.)

For anyone wanting to make a weekend of it, our visit to Shrewsbury (or Shrewsbury, as some people pronounce it) coincides with a big cartoon festival: http://www.shrewsburycartoonfestival.com/ which sounds fun. Some big names from the world of cartoons will be there I'm told!

I guess this may also mean more traffic in the area on Sunday?

I tend to agree with Adrian about running the other way round - streamliners are a bit quicker than pedalcars, especially when on their side on wet grass! I personally think running Hillingdon the other way round is inadvisable as it puts the 'crowd' in danger of the same risk on the last (downhill) bend.

I guess, if no streamliners turn up then it would be okay?

Soooo... Any idea of race format yet... I'm about to start an intensive training program and want to make sure I tailor it to the event and don't peak too early... Big smile

Due to a bit of an unfortunate situation involving suicidal exploding nipples (not something I've generally had to say before), the rear 26" wheel may not be ready in time for the race on Sunday.

Does anybody happen to have a spare rear 26" wheel with disc hub they could bring along to the race for me to use (if I haven't got mine back in time)?
I'll handsomely reward with the finest beer!

I'll be fitting my own disc rotor and cassette, along with tyre, etc. So all I'd need is a bare wheel.

I'll update tomorrow evening to confirm if I definitely need one or not.
