Hello from Battle Mountain!

The tribes are gathering for the annual Mad People In The Desert event ["That's Burning Man" - Ed.].  Should be an exciting year, though still no Mr Whittingham, not least because he too, like Mr English, has taken to crashing upright bikes big-time.  New Shiny Things from Delft, Team Cygnus, Toronto and a much-improved Eivie 4 are all thought to be in with a shout.  First bunch of photos:

Love the shot of the 'this'll fix anything' box - ie 50 rolls of tape!
Have you got a blog going again?

Blog is at: http://automatic-diary.blogspot.co.uk/

Just about the travels so far but I'll be posting every evening while I'm here and quite possibly after the morning runs too.

Results from Monday morning qualifying runs: http://jnyyz.wordpress.com/2014/09/08/bm2014-monday-morning-qualifying/  Top work by Dr No to get them posted so quickly.

Sadly BRITAIN'S Al Grace didn't get to run this morning as his main display is actually a tablet.  Which chose a crucial moment to flip the display umop-ap!sdn.  The Slippery Slug executed a neat half-roll into the brush; machine and rider are unhurt.  We have a couple of PSOs from Liverpool University over here observing and being, along with Jonathan, Al's crew.  They are fettling the machine further as I type but it won't get to run again until Tuesday am.  The Scousers' Mustang convertible is a V8 chiz, but it probably cost them to same to hire for a week as I'm paying on my V6 for five weeks.  So as Student Oaves go, they can't be entirely Penniless.

A few other starting mishaps but no high-speed incidents.  Back out to 305 in an hour or so; should be more photos and a new Automatic Diary entry in time for a discerning BRITONS' breakfast hour.

Bit of a downer with the weather - we left for the evening runs in the midst of a brief but enthusiastic shower.  Dry out on 305 but cooler than we'd like.  Rik Houwers in Velox 4 did an all-legal 80.44 mph after a low-speed tumble on his first launch attempt; a cluster of other runs in the 68-70 mph region.  And the Mudstang nearly ran out of motor-spirit on the way back to town afterwards.  Full evening results should be available on Dr No's blog: http://jnyyz.wordpress.com/category/hpv/ when the poor chap has had some dinner.  A few more pictures from me at the link in the previous post.

Barbara and Ellen are doing times VERY close to each other so far - could be a good battle.

Christien Veelenturf (pronounced "Christine") could also be up there, and Teagan Patterson qualified this morning with a 42 mph run.  Considering she only rode a streamliner for the first time yesterday...

Windy this morning - Adam Ince fell again at the start of his qualifying attempt and packed for the day.  Al Grace has relocated his primary camera to the top of the shell and got going OK only for the P*nct*r* Fairy to visit his front tyre.  Barbara was supposed to qualify in the Varna Tempest but decided to stay in bed.  Orin Peters did a 37 in a correx-bodied Trice.  Jan-Marcel and Teagan bothhad a few problems getting going but qualified - J-M did a 64.  They've borrowed one of Delft's sk8ter d00ds as their own couldn't come this year.

Still windy at the moment (14:40 ish) but it's hot and sunny.

A better evening weatherwise.  New trike record for Gareth Hanks in All Overzealous at 72.94 mph and a storming 82.18 mph from Rik Houwers in Velox IV.  Full results available over at Jun Nogami's blog: http://jnyyz.wordpress.com/2014/09/13/bm2014-friday-evening-results/

The fastest trike in the wurrrrld!
