On the subject of crosswinds I came across a web shop selling something called "Storm Strips" for the Quest which are thin foam strips that are stuck either side of the cockpit for the whole length of the Quest. They are to break up crosswinds and stop unequal air pressure on both sides of the Quest which is what causes a Velomobile to be difficult to ride in windy conditions. Apparently Velomobiles with those raised areas for your legs and to give better vision are less prone to side wind problems but can still be improved with the "Storm Strips"
I would guess any fully faired bike would benefit in strong side winds.

The Dutch know a lot about side winds and Velos.

All the best.

Here is a link to the Storm Strips. You can use a translator if you don't read Dutch. http://www.velomobielonderdelen.nl/category/27321/stormstrip
