Do we have an organiser for this one??

Do we have the outdoor velodrome or the outdoor track at the University or both?
Will this be exclusive to BHPC and guest racers or anyone that wants a go on the velodrome?

I think we have both as for last year (although I guess the velodrome will be subject to it being dry).
Because of insurance issues we couldn't hold a BHPC event on a track where other cyclists were riding although anyone with a human powered machine will be welcome to sign on and take part in our event.

Happy to help to organise the velodrome races as I won't be racing.

We will be racing on both the track and the velodrome at York.

I'll do sign-on and first race organisery for York.

Sign on will start at 9:30.

Race formats and the time we have the track/velodrome booked for are as follows:

10:30-12:30 cycle circuit

40 min +1 lap

13:00-15:00 velodrome

30 min +1 lap

1 lap flying sprint

As always, anyone is more than welcome to come along, sign on and take part in the BHPC races at York.

As organiser of the velodrome bit I would like to change the 1 lap flying sprint to the fastest of 3 laps if that is OK. We did the fastest of 3 laps last year and I think it went down well.

Quote from Neil on the York Rally thread - (Best wishes to Neil)

"Hi everyone
There is a possibility I won’t be coming to York , I have all the timing gear and the club Marquee , I know it’s very late in the day but my mum is very ill in hospital I it’s looking like I need to go down this weekend so all up in the air , if anyone from London can manage to pick up the club kit just in standby that would be great"

If anyone coming to York has a stop watch we could use that would be great. Everything else is probably manageable with enough hands.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the racing at York today. All the people who tallied laps, rang the bell, waved the flag, timed the finish or took part in a good day of varied racing formats. Particular thanks to Ian Squires who called out upwards of 750 numbers for the hour race so that we had a tally, and to Adrian Setter for single-handedly providing all the timing info we needed.

But does the Jack Russel get thanked for its contribution...?

Good fun day to round off the rally. I think I've done a bit of everything on the Baron this weekend, from fully-loaded touring, getting multi-modal in one of CrossCountry's recumbent-unfriendly dandly bike spaces, comedy off-roading, and riding fast in circles. The only thing missing was any kind of hill.

And the Big Rabbit which crossed my path a couple of times. At least it was smarter than the runty little dog and got off the track when it saw there was a race on.

... and some riders also reported a weasel on the track. Bizarrely they reported that the weasel was being chased by the rabbit!

You should have gone for a standing hill climb on one of the velodrome corners...

Thanks to all for a great days racing, and for the photos Jeff.
I went far better than ever before in the first race, then not much left for the bumpy 30min velodrome and 1 lap all-out races, however proof if proof be needed that training does actually work, and hours spent staring at the wall/ceiling/floor/anything on the turbo in preparation for Battle Mountain aren't entirely wasted Big smile

Thank you all for this fantastic day, it was a blast! Special thanks to Heather as master of the clocks!

The forecast announces some exciting highs of 37°C to 39°C for my next 750km. I am trying to figure out how to set up a continuous perfusion of water directly into my blood stream… Dead

Here are the provisional results for the races at York

Please let me know of any quibbles by the end of Thursday.

I've already spotted a couple:

1. Russ did you garminify your 25 min race on the velodrome as I think I might have missed one of your laps when doing the tally.

2. Andrew. You appear to be missing from the 25 min velodrome results, but I'm sure you were in it. Do you have any gpx data to verify how many laps you did (or whether there was anyone on the track you don't remember overtaking (or being overtaken by).

Thanks Chris! However, I do not appear to be in Round 2 Race 1 at all. Admittedly I DNF'd but Fiona says I did 36 laps (it felt like 100!), which must be worth a few points...

Right you are Geoff. I'd missed it out when typing in the results. I'll stick you 36 laps in the finalised version

In the 25 minutes race, I overtook Andrew twice and finished right behind him in the same fraction of a second, so he must have roughly the same time as me but minus 2 laps. Although it does not make any difference, I was riding the Z High Racer

Russell should have 40 laps in the one hour race - I missed one and thought I had altered it on the tally sheet.

I have most of the little tally sheets for the velodrome so I'll see if I can find one for Andrew. I think it was Ian Squires tallying him but I think I remember it being 71 laps which would tally (no pun intended) with David's response

UPDATE: Andrew confirms 71 laps from his Garmin

Hi Chris
in round one race 1 I'm sure Kim was in front of me as she overtook Brian then shot off.

Yes I agree 40 laps for me in the first race - I was half a lap up on Mr Sidwell. I think the tally is correct at 68 for the 25min velodrome race - Jochen and I were on the same lap and I pulled a gap at the end of the race.
Congrats to Andrew on the 1 lap effort - executed to perfection...
Like an eejit I had the Garmin set on indoor mode so it hasn't recorded a GPS feed

Yup, Russell should have one lap more than me (i.e. 40) in the 1-hour. I was cruelly lapped by Slash just before the finish line, turning my bell into a flag and robbing me of the chance to make up the gap to Mr Bridge. It would have meant making up half a lap in one lap but there was always a chance of him being taken out by a stealth weasel attack.

I wondered about that (I remember working to catch you up after going cross country on the first lap, but it's all a bit vague after that - I may have lost some time braking for the dog).

My Garmin seems to agree with 34 laps.

Could we not add the Jack Russell into the results too. I know he was a late starter but there was plenty of enthusiasm and he must have done at least 1/2 of a lap.

Did anyone find a Garmin heart rate strap at York?
I've turned the house and car upside down and can't find it - the last place I definitely had it was York...
