The power to make that decision lies in the hands of whoever steps up to organise.

Without knowing that in advance it's impossible for some of our folks to pick the right gearing (or machine).
From the organisers point of view it's a lot easier to use the hill as it puts you at the top with all the facilities (and electricity for laptop etc).
For most riders the bottom loop is very nice and is less knee-popping.

He's right - I was given the option of the whole track but I've only booked the lower circuit. Sorry goats.

John Highet has very kindly agreed to be race organiser. Netty is also going to help take race fees.

All help and support would be appreciated.

Race on.

John and Dave are going to be race organising but here is a suggestion for race format:
Round 1
Slower 30 mins
Faster 30 mins

Round 2
Slower 45 mins
Faster 45 mins

As I've been co-opted and have never actually seen Hog Hill before (let alone ridden it!) I'm open to suggestions-- unless anyone has a better idea I'll go with Brian's posted format. As for the actual circuit option - what do riders prefer?

See you tomorrow

Just like to say a big thanks to all involved in today's race, enjoyed bombing round on the tandem with Jnr and my other boy Jack was over the moon with his bell and flag duty (as well as a bit of timing), we won't be at the next one but should be around for the rest, as all the best, looking forward to meeting you all again 😀

Alan,
can you please check the results as I'm pretty certain that I was ahead of Jochin. I think he was  probably 10-20 seconds behind me rather than in front.

Nice day really and thanks to the organisers. Yes, Neil was in front of me. Jochen

No problem - There was some confusion over times with more than one listed for some people.
I've sent the race spreadsheet to Andrew so those two results can be switched before publication on the main site, along with any other quibbles he receives in the usual way (written on the back of a £50 note....) Big smile

Jochen / Neil

I think Neil should be credited with 21 laps (not 20 laps) in Round 2 Race 2. Can you both let us know if you agree (or provide alternative theory). The individual timers provided this information:

Neil 20 laps 33:56.73
Jochen 20 laps 33:46.02

Thanks.

I'm confused - are we all talking about Round 2 here? If so then it sounds like Neil thinks he was a few seconds ahead of Jochen, not a lap and a few seconds.

I understand the tandem was piloted by both Applebys, not just Snr? If so then the points go to the pair of riders, treated as if they were one person with four legs, not to either of the riders individually.

I think it was just that they were racing using Johnny Snr's race number so he came up on the sheet...
needs a new entry (and new number?) I guess.

Me and Jnr are not worried about points, I don't think it right to get points as individuals as we were both effectively cheating by having an extra engine as there's no class for the four legged riders I think our collective points should not be counted, luckily we finished last in each round so don't affect the points and placings of other riders.

Mmmmmmm........I've got a tandem , and I'm also from Norfolk. I've probably got a relative somewhere with enough legs to be able to ride a tandem and claim all the points for themselves

For Round 2 Race 2 (last fast race)
Based on video evidence here to get the order at the flag:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vveoX19c4D8" rel="nofollow - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vveoX19c4D8
Could we change the times to those of the master timer:
32:43.04 Steve
33:50.54 Johnny
33:51.29 David
33:55.73 Neil
34:05.54 Jochen
34:29.00 Gus

The number of laps stays the same.

Yes, I am pretty sure me and Neil both made 20 laps with Neil finishing a few seconds before me. That's also in agreement with my and Neil's Strata data.

Sorry mate, rules is rules and points is points. And what do rules mean? Blazers!

Actually the rules about tandems were thrashed out some years ago by my esteemed predecessor, Mr Setter of Yorkshire. There are never enough tandems to form a class on their own so the simplest way to allow them to compete is to treat them as a single bike with a single rider. It was thought that the benefit of the extra power was pretty much balanced by the extra weight, fatter wheels, etc so there's no unfairness to other riders with no friends.

The other 3 races are good timing-wise as far as we know. So the times for the other 3 races stay unchanged and we can keep the original times and lap counts. The very first race even has full video corroboration that I am going to enter for the Cannes Film Festival - it is very arty.

Thanks to the race organisers: John, Dave, Alan, and Netty.

It was great to see the Tandem whizzing round, the trike, and the 4-wheeler too.
