With Round 3 now just a week away and in the absence of any better (other) offers, you're stuck with me again...

We have access to the track from 12:00 to 16:00
Those of you that were there last year will know that we will need to make sure we run to schedule to fit in a good race event so please turn up on time and be ready when your race starts...

If possible I'll start sign on at 11am wherever I can - Probably in the car park.

Practice will start at 12:00.
Sign-on will close at 12:30 - PLEASE NOTE IT REALLY WILL CLOSE THEN!!!

Plan is to run a short blast on the shortened circuit (with the extra little loop coned off (assuming we have some cones...) and then a longer race on the full circuit.
Depending on numbers the field will be split into two groups as usual:

13:00: Race 1 - "Slow" - Short Circuit - 10 Minutes + 1 Lap
13:20: Race 2 - "Fast" - Short Circuit - 10 Minutes + 1 Lap

14:00: Race 3 - "Slow" - Full Circuit - 40 Minutes + 1 Lap
15:00: Race 4 - "Fast" - Full Circuit - 40 Minutes + 1 Lap

Points will be weighted 3:1 in favour of the longer race.

All/Any help will be greatly appreciated as I might have a race myself with a bit of luck...

If this is your first visit to Lee Valley then please take a look at the Velopark website for directions to the circuit:
https://www.visitleevalley.org.uk/en/content/cms/london2012/velo-park/plan-your-visit/" rel="nofollow - www.visitleevalley.org.uk/en/content/cms/london2012/velo-park/plan-your-visit/
In particular note that the entrance is not the same as the old way in to Eastway, even though the circuit is in pretty much the same place and the roads are all still there.

Sign-on will be near or just inside the main entrance to the velodrome starting at 11:00am. We have use of the road circuit from 12:00 noon to 4:00pm

Eh, where do you park there? Seems like there are no car parks except for blue badge holders?

We parked in the car park right outside the velodrome last year... off Abercrombie Road on the downloadable map...

I think for me there is a lap missing for each round. Round 1 I should be between Chris and Karl. Round 2 I should have the same number of laps as Chris and Russell. Jochen

No problem Jochen - I'll change that before I send the final results for publication... Any more quibbles folks??

Average speeds look too high in the first...SLAP.

Many thanks to Alan, Dave, Lee and anyone else who helped our for their slick organisation in a limited time allocation. Apologies for us having to leave early, especially as it started raining hard just as we left!

Yes they will be Geoff... We didn't have an accurate lap distance for the short circuit.
That can be changed but I didn't want to risk losing all the data attempting it... Big smile

I've now sent the sheet to our esteemed competition secretary for checking and to Kevin for publication so if there are any further quibbles please post them ASAP...

Here are what I think are the final(ish) results...

I think there is a mistake, in the round 2, race 2, I have done as many laps as Neil Kirk, as we stayed together most of the time and I ended up finishing before Brian Robertson

Roger that David. I have already PM'd Alan about this. I checked my laps and speed with my GPS and they are OK. Is it possible that you were recorded one lap short?

Yes, I was recorded one lap short (my GPS confirms this as it records laps as well)

Can anyone with a comp or GPS which was switched on during the first race (unlike mine Unhappy) give us an estimate of the lap length? Nice as the >30mph speeds look it would be nice to have something more realistic for the record.

My GPS has this as 6.44 miles for 7 laps or 0.92 miles/lap.

This is only approx because the sample rate on my Cat Eye cycle GPS is low and so the result is heavily quantised (it would be OK for straight lines).

I confirm 5.5miles 6laps..... plus a bit for turning the counter off = 0.92 miles per lap

Thank you to every one for a slick race organisation.

On my GPS, I have got 9.98km for 7 laps . 1.42km /lap= 0.892miles / lap. for round 1 ( round 2 gives me 1.617km/lap = 1.01 miles/lap for comparison (29.11 km for 18 laps)).

I trust that all competitors are now fully dried out!

I've posted a selection of photographs to my Zenfolio account:

Thanks to all for another fun afternoon spectating.

Some great photos there Mike, many thanks for putting those online. FYI I can't get the photos to load using Chrome, but they load OK using Internet Explorer.

Re: the track length issue, I get the following with my TomTom GPS:
7 laps in the slow race = 6.0miles = 0.86miles/lap
17 laps in the fast race = 16.7miles = 0.98miles/lap

I think that my position and Mike's may be the wrong way round in round 2 race 1;  I definitely went over the line behind him... although over the distance perhaps I was the same speed because I started behind him, too!

Sorry for the delay in commenting on this.

cheers

I tried on a different computer without the 'AdBlockPlus' Chrome extension and it worked OK - it must be something in this extension that's blocking the photos.

Many thanks to Russell and David for their functioning GPSs. Both give a lap-length for the first race of 0.88 miles, when adjusted for the nominal length of the full circuit being exactly 1.00 miles, so that's what we'll go with.

Many grateful thanks also to http://bikefix.co.uk/" rel="nofollow - Bikefix , the famous Bloomsbury cycling emporium, for sponsorship of the Lee Valley event.

Finally, thanks also to the BHPC Treasurer for agreeing to me hiring a circuit which is never going to turn in a profit for us but which seemed to be enjoyed by everyone I talked to on Sunday

Sorry i wanted to quibble my 40 minute result

i have a query about my result for the 40 minute slow race where both shaun ballantine and i were under the distinct impression that i had beaten him and therefore came above him in the results;

he just beat me in the 10 minute slow dash but i certainly thought that i had bettered him in the longer race;

if my laps were miscounted by my timer would that have resulted in the mistake in my placing??

my time seems to be faster than shauns and geoff booker at 45.31.32

can anyone help me out and confirm this
many thanks
not exactly sure of the etiquette
