Does anyone have any names or addresses for the organisers of the 2014 WCs in France? I'm currently sorting out the race calendar for next year and would like to avoid a clash of dates if possible.

Marc is probably involved - you could try messaging him on this forum?

Hi Andrew,

During the 24h of Albion I spoke to Marc and he and the rest of the French crew are working towards: Besançon on 8-10 august 2014!

They are planning a 2km Climb TT, 200m flying, 1k standing and one or more long distance events.

Please note that these are not yet set in stone, as Marc told me they depend on different permissions etc...

May I suggest planning Hog Hill (with the Hill) before the Worlds, so people can get their gearing in order :-p

Regards, Filip

Hi Filip -

Many thanks for the info - very useful even if it does change later. I was thinking of missing Hog Hill next year because we have so many new tracks to try but it's a good idea to have it as a tryout for Besançon. I'll see how it all fits together.

The dates I mentioned earlier have been confirmed.

And more information can be found http://velorizontal.bbfr.net/t18390-world-championship-in-saone-france-8th-9th-10th-august-2014" rel="nofollow - here .

Thanks for posting here FiSh, I always get confused with the dual BHPC forum config.

I can add that there will be a specific category for students and that the competition will be followed by a week of cycle tours if you plan to travel with friends and family.

Stay tuned for more info, once we get our web site up and running

good news Geoff!

our web site is nearly complete, registration will be open in a few weeks.
all our race options are validated, including the airport strip for sprints

Camping will be free of charge on site, but many good accommodations exist nearby

Looking forward to seeing many entries from over the channel (spectators welcome!)
Please remember the competition is followed by a week of touring

cheers

Hi Marc, yes, we're staying for the touring too - will be good to see you again.

I would say though, for anyone planning on coming and not camping, I would advise booking very soon. As far as I could see, Gites in the immediate vicinity are scarce and, as this is in the French vacation period, hotels are booking up very fast.

I cant make it this year as i have family wedding the weekend after and trip to Italy the week after that so cant swing a pass for this as well... Was all clear until sister in Law decided to get married this year, how unreasonable of her!

Looks like a great mix of events, though not so keen on the idea that the road race is on open roads and there may be cars on the road at the same time!!Thumbs Down

With my record of crashing Quests I won't be racing but I am thinking of extending my Oslo-Berlin ride (ending August 1st) to Besancon to come and watch. Are any other recumbenteers from the UK planning to get there "the hard way"? If so then send me a PM via this site and we can arrange to meet up for at least part of the route down and all the way back.

Registrations are open (in Beta version ;-)

yes a medical certificate is requested by the french authorities. Mind you, it's not a bad idea to do a check-up once in a while!

As for Andy's comment, the roads will be blocked during the races so no major issue there. Of course, you can never 100% rule out a [bloody french] stubborn car driver forcing his way (hence the caution).
Bring your sister to Besançon for her honeymoon Wink

Spectators are more than welcome, you can even benefit from the evening meals, provided you register and pay for them.

See you there

looking increasingly unlikely that I'm going to make it there this year.
If I can't find a new job asap then I'm not going to afford it, and if I do find a new job soon then taking 2 weeks off just after starting may not go down very well! :(

Thanks simon watson

Hi Simon,

it's no problem to add extra persons. Simply log in and edit Jack's entry and add the necessary meals and / or T-shirts (extra T-shirt costs 15€)

If the 2 persons are riding a bike, then they need to be entered separately. You can then pay for the 3 entries by bank transfer. Simply mention the 3 ID # on the payment. (Jack's ID is 19)

As for the student challenge, it's opened to schools or universities as part of a project. If that's the case for Jack then check http://www.hpv-student-challenge.eu/ for more details.

Please use the official mail address (on our site) since I do not check regularly the many fora.

See you soon

Well sorry Geoff, but there's a climb somewhere in the loop (at 3:40 in the video)
However it's not very difficult...but on the 10th lap, that will be another story!

100 days to go, don't forget to register! In June the fee will increase. It's not that we want to make more money, but for organisation the sooner we have an idea about the participation, the better!

Well, early bird rate for registration is soon over (31 May). It's time to wake up ;-)

If you are still undecided about the bike to take, please read the latest article about the 100km criterium:

Early bird rate is extended to mid-June at least, so don't hesitate to register! So far only 6 brits have signed (including the Watson family who counts for 3)

Cheers

Hi Geoff,

The profiles below overestimate the grade I believe

- hill-climb about 15% .
http://www.openrunner.com/index.php?id=2921101

- Criterium about 7%

Thanks Marc - not as bad as I thought when the velomobile guy was talking about a 28T chainring...

We still haven't reach our break-even number of participants :-(
The 60€ registration price is therefore extended once more to 1st July.
We are currently working on a solution to provide medical certificate on site, via a local GP (about 25€). If someone needs it please get in touch with me via the official contact email.

Hi again Marc,

We would rather get a medical certificate before setting off for France if possible. I went to our doctors today and they are unclear from the certificate (from your website) exactly what sort of medical examination is required - can you or your insurers be more specific please? As a full 30 minute general medical examination, will cost £80, we are hoping this is not required!

Thanks for your help.

Hi Geoff,

in France the GP only checks heart rate, blood pressure, breath and your general condition. So a full examination (VO2max, electrocardiogram,..) is not required.
Hope this clarifies the issue.

Any late participant from the UK to come? Mike B., Andrew, Claire, Adrian, Neil, Paul,...where are you? ;-)

See you soon.

Well, there's only one hill! It's just a matter of choosing the right gear. Cycling is not just about riding on a flat oval track, "this is cycling but not as I know it" ;-)

Looks beautiful Marc - we are looking forward to the touring more than the racing! And Jon and Anne, who are coming with us are only doing the touring. I guess we would opt for a medium distance ride.

And I see the Tour de France stage started in Besancon today. Great result for France too!
