Worth noting that Ian's average sleeping includes stopping time for sleeping, eating pooing etc. I heard that he managed to get a speeding ticket somewhere en route. Well done Ian (for the ticket as well as for completing the event)!

Is there actually a speed limit on pedal cycles in France? Maybe the Gendarme thought it was motorised?

It was a confusing situation Phil with my poor French, his poor English, not believing that it wasn't motorised not appreciating what PBP was me refusing to go to bank, me telling him I didn't have driving licence (on me). I think the parting agreement was he would send a fine to my home address which was taken off my brevet card. I've also looked and can't see anything saying there is such a law, however one person has told me that speeding on a cycle is Belgium is an offence, so who knows what will transpire, even if I do get a fine I won't pay it.

Thanks Jeff, yes I'm pleased with the time, but I also wasted a lot of time, and knowing what I know now I could probably have gone faster, I wasn't cycling myself into the ground, afterall it's just a long bike ride with frequent places to refuel, top up water and sleep, it's the atmosphere, sheer number of riders and public support that make it special.
There was one chap on a Cobra low-racer as well, no idea if he finished it.
