Hi All,

Please note the following message receved from the venue:

Hi Guys,

In advance of your next visit I asked the coaches for some feedback and they sent the below, if you could circulate to all attendee’s. We rarely have incidents but have had a number of track damages and rider injuries as a result of this session. To move forward I would ask that all the below comments are taken on board and a review will be completed after to ensure your safety and that of the centre staff.

·         “Build your speed before you enter the track and enter on the straight” this was given in the briefing, first drill a rider tries to enter the track in the middle of the bend at about 6 mph, tips over and injures his shoulder.

·         Remove all the flashing lights, camera’s etc that riders have attached in case they become dislodged/unsecure. We don’t allow anything unnecessarily attached to bikes that could damage the wooden surface, cameras, computer mounts exposed. If you could ask all riders to adhere to this prior to turning up it will save the coaches asking them to remove the parts anyway.

·         The biggest safety concern from the coaching staff is keeping the safety zone (Flat part of the track, wide dark blue area) free from vehicles, pedestrians at all times. Some of the machines can't ride the banking all the time so need to have an escape route.

·         No feet down to brake on the safety as we have found lots of small bits of damage from metal cleats we think.

·         Be aware that timing equipment cannot be on the safety next to the cote. Any timing kit will need to be agreed prior to installation, have a valid PAT test ect.

Any issues please do come back to me.

We look forward to having you guys back, always a spectacle, lets make it a little safer and less damaging to our facility.

Thanks Alan, all sounds sensible. Looking forward to it...
I can't think of a timing solution that doesn't involve gear on the track - are the stopwatches still available?  And if we're using stopwatches should we think about event length to avoid needing three stopwatches for Slash.

Slash didn't enter this time - Which makes things even more tricky as we'll actually have to concentrate to see who's in the lead. :D

Lee will be in the lead, for this occasion Slash and Lee are interchangeable!

Could the timing aerials be positioned on the inside of the glass and in the spectator area respectively? (Presumably there's a cable route under the track?) The total width must be comparable to that of other tracks the system has been used on. Worth a try, if only to determine whether it works for next time?

Yup, got this. The arrangement last year was to set up the timing in the front row of the stalls, outside the track, with the antennas pointing down the banking. The commissaires seemed happy and it worked, which is always a bonus.

I shall contact the coach and get it all arranged and agreed.
