To get all serious for a moment, in case anyone should fail to spot the humour in the posts above, have as much fun as you like mentally devising energy storage mechanisms, but if you have stored energy on board your vehicle at the start of a race, you're not Human Powered: it's in DA RULES.
Though a very strict reading of DA RULES might prohibit it, the convenience of the nearby club house might just lead us to continue to start races at Hog Hill at the top of the hill.

I always thought the water powered rocket to be the best bet. Not sure how anyone behind you at the start line would feel about it.

I remember Adam Hart-Davis demonstrating that compressed air propelling a jet of water was much more effective at propelling a vehicle than just a jet of compressed air. But I think Rob is thinking of an air-powered motor. It has been done.

But presumably a stored energy device that did NOT contain energy at the start would be legal?

I'm thinking that somebody getting a bit carried away with the old Heinz Baked Beans could be facing a life ban...

Since wheels are flywheels, it would be hard to ban them... |
