My thinking, based on our own distant experience of indoor velodromes and watching Belgian races, is that multitrack machines use banked tracks very differently from two-wheelers. Bikes, at least fast ones, tend to use more of the track as they climb the banking and swoop down onto the straights whereas VMs tend to circle round in a narrow band. Slow riders also follow a narrow track round the inside. Ideally we would want three races, fast, slow and multitrack but there isn't time for that hence my compromise of putting slow and multitrack together.

However I'm very happy to take advice from VM riders and possibly change the format if safety is thought to be a problem.

Thanks Andrew, having never "done" the 250m wall of death I will bow to your knowledge, although seeing Daniel Fenn doing 40mph and swooping up and down i don't think all VM's do that, but he's mad!

I think a safety briefing along the lines of "keep your line" should suffice.

Sign-on for the races will start at 11:45 outside the velodrome and finish at 12:00 noon SHARP! No race entries will be accepted after 12:00 although you will still be able to enter the non-BHPC races after 1:00pm.

Those planning to go to the velodrome can either join the escorted convoy leaving Knavesmire (the main Rally site) at 11:15 or make their own way there - the velodrome is at York Sport Village,
YO10 5FG.

I'd be grateful for any assistance with running our event at the velodrome. If you will be at York but not manning the stand or planning to ride the ring then please find me at or near the BHPC stand on Saturday.

Help with registration, timing and generally ordering people about would be most appreciated.

Barney has an A Level in ordering people about and would save the cost of a megaphone... Big smile

I'll be at York and can be cajoled into acting as human megaphone at the velodrome if required or happy to man the stand while people go over there.

Due to complications I'm going to miss another weekend of racing this weekend but will give Alan a call to make sure we've got things in hand for next weekend.

We're heading up to Lancaster later today but looking at the forecast I think I'm going to be volunteering for marshalling tomorrow!!
Hopefully looking better for Preston...

It's looking promising for me getting to York on Sunday with the Nocom for the outdoor velodrome session 12-1pm. I'll help if I can...

Again, thanks to the organisers for making this happen - great to experience a steeply banked outdoor velodrome, even if it turned out not to be that fast.

Some photos here of the fast race:
