Hi folks
well Hillingdon 2, the clouds broke and the sun shone all day, the turnout was great some 30 riders and the slow race was not slow at all, also the female side of BHPC racing is doing well and was represented by some very fast and dedicated racers who look to return next year too,  also it was good to see some new people racing and I hope they will carry on next year, on the down side there were some mechanicals with Dave overtons bike losing a wheel bearing but luckily not a wheel and Geoff Birds Vulcan trike had something go in the back too, on a slightly sad note one of the founding fathers of the BHPC and all round legend Mike Burrows decided to announce his retirement from racing after many many years at the cutting edge I'm sure all of us would wish him a long and happy retirement, looking on the bright side as I was in the fast race and he had some health issues during the race and was going slowly I did manage to pass him probably the one and only time that is likely to happen, not kicking him when he was down I might add I did ask what the problem was and later it promted a usual Mike responce of if you are overtaking me then it is time I retired.

The AGM went well with lots of people to thank for making the worlds happen and keeping the races running as usual, next year lots to look forward to with talk of open road time trials, audaxes, Derby Velodrome and an early start to the season at Curborough with some weekenders thrown in for good measure, as for me in the last race of the season I was in the fast race so any photo's of me with other racers are of them passing me and me at the back entertaining the troops, so here are some photo's mainly of the slower racers copy any you want.
Cheers.

Thanks Dave. Were you at the AGM? Did I not recognise you? Many Apologies if so.

All the best.

Indeedy so.

That's a shame.

During the brief chat I had with him, he was saying the training rides he'd been doing were as good as ever, and reckoned he was averaging 22 mph, but a recent hospital check-over revealed nothing, so he was just putting it down to 'one of those things'. I guess he did a bit of reflecting during the second fast race and made a decision then.

I wondered how old he is, and wiki reveals a birth year of 1943 - which makes him 75.

Well, I think we'd all agree, that's pretty good going.....the way he's looked after himself physically, his enthusiasm for racing, continually building and refining his bikes should be an inspiration to us all.

Mike's been in thinking about it since March at least. He's not keen on all the driving it takes, and if it all goes to waste because his heart won't play ball at the critical time it's easy to understand.

I've been trying to pursuede him keep on racing to give him incentive to keep on training at a high level. Plus it's always good to seem him at race meetings.

I'll take over the role of 75 year old BHPC racer in February, if not up to his speed. Just need to sort out a faster bike.Wink I'm no bike designer though.

Hmmm ....don't think the lap counter work for me here. I slowed in the last 2 laps but didn't loose laps. I was so lucky with that slow puncture. I did enjoy the race though, and will make a better effort to attend more next season.
Never believe an atom they make up everything.
