If you were at Derby you may have seen the show put on at half-time by Steve Slade, having a shot at the lap record for the Arena. Steve's fastest lap was 13.05s.

Although the coaches couldn't say if this was a record for Derby, Steve was only 1.45s outside the official British record for the flying 500m held by Chris Hoy:
Unpaced Flying Start 500m
13-May-2007  Chris Hoy      La Paz, BOLIVIA  24.758s
19-Aug-2017  Steve Slade  Derby, UK            26.21s
Steve's times were recorded by our timing system and the results are here:
www.bhpc.org.uk/Data/Sites/1/media/events/events17/09derby/slash/2017-04-01-derby-r4-slash_laps.html
[PS: Lap 5 + 6 = 26.21s]

And if my geography is correct Derby is a LOT closer to sea level than La Paz, so I reckon our Slasher is a lot closer than at first it looks!
Ian, retired.

Does this not mean that he now has the Unpaced Flying Start 1,000m, currently held at Derby?

Quite right: 53.34s vs 57.412s for the British record (and 56.303s for the world record, although that could be standing start).

Just spotted the mini-write-up that the Derby Telegraph did on August's indoor velodrome antics....

Hi all,

After quite a while, I've finally got my footage from the days events together. Just the on-bike footage from my handbike though. Plus, you all get to see what it's like to rollover on a handbike. Possibly quite similar to that of a kind fellow who kindly decided not to run me over when I blocked his path on my side!
