Weather permitting, Mike Burrows is planning a go at the British 1-hour record at Rockingham Speedway (near Corby in Northamptonshire) on Thursday evening this week (August 23rd), riding the new Soup Dragon speedbike.

Everyone is most welcome to come along and cheer him on. Gates open at 5.30pm and Mike plans to be on track from around 6.30pm.

Would like to attend but getting there from work will be difficult - unless someone happens to be passing through Peterborough after 5pm (Huntingdon and St Neots a little earlier). I’ll be on a train if you hadn’t guessed.

All the best,
David

No record unfortunately.

Neither riders could ride with the top on. So there is some issue to sort out.

Apparently the inside track line at Rockingham dips away at the bends making it very difficult for those with restricted side view to follow. Hence Soup Dragon is rideable with the top off but not in camera mode. Neil Hood did slightly better with Ristretto but was visibly wandering off the line at each end of the bends.

The problem should be much reduced on a straight track (e.g Battle Mountain) or an oval with two lines you could ride between.

What about the track Nici Walde did the 24 hour on? The Opel track. It's a big 4.8 km circle. http://virtualglobetrotting.com/map/opel-test-track/view/google/

Side porthole? Or follow a gurney at a distance.

I've uploaded a video from my helmet camera from last night's test ride at Rockingham.  This is from the first lap (first ever ride in a fully faired machine!) where the speedo was reading 37mph max, then a lot less in the corners where I was fighting to keep it upright with a 20mph gusty wind.
I then did a second 2-lap ride where I touched 47mph briefly on the speedo...next stop Battle Mountain...gulp
